Original stock brake caliper removal for painting, help!
Can someone show me step by step in order to remove the brake calipers? I have the stock ones and the metal pieces on the calipers are in the way for me to paint the calipers, I want to paint them black, I prefer pictures step by step so I know exactly what to do to separate them...
I painted mine on the car as I felt more comfortable "skimping" on the painting rather than on the brake bleeding. Results came out excellent, just make they're clean and smooth.
I had used G2 paint in April of 2013. I wasn't paying much attention but this November ripped off all my calipers and replaced them (one was locked up, another had something going on with the caliper pins, I just replaced them all) Anyway, took off the calipers and the G2 paint was crap. It was burnt, flaking, it was terrible. I would never paint again. Powder Coat or don't do it.
I took mine apart to paint them. Came out quite nice and lasted a long time. I basically spent about 20 mins cleaning up each caliper with brake cleaner and wire brush prior to painting. It held up remarkably well. This is an old pic though...about 160K miles ago.
^ that's not powder coat? Wow that looks good. Watd u use?
Nope, all rattle canned. I de-greased it with Purple Stuff, sanded with 150 grit, used 2000 degree primer (5 coats, 3 light and 2 medium), then the actual paint was VHT Engine Metallic Burnt Copper (4 coats, 2 light and 2 medium). Then I slapped on some $4 Brembo decals from eBay.
