My experience modding the G

Hey fellas, I've been meaning to do this thread for a while now, as I don't recall anybody doing one like it. I bought my '06 G with original 19" rays, sports package and auto for $15k a few years ago now and I've put in excess of $10k into it over that time. "Not a bad way to spend ten thousand dollars" -the damn movie that is to blame for my obsession. Was it fun and made me feel like I was bringing Need For Speed Underground to life? Yes, definitely. Was it all worth it now that I look back at it? GOD no. Save for a house, invest in a business, save for a car that performs well out of the box, or just save and let it gain interest. But I will tell you what you should spend your money on if you're a kid who needs to feed your craving like I was when I started modding. I've spent countless hours on this forum obsessively researching what mods I should do. I've consulted with shops who specialize in working with G/Zs. I've also driven a show car G, a supercharged G, and I've felt every before and after of each mod on my car. You can trust my advice on this one, I assure you. This thread will be a work in progress as I have to gather old pictures from far and wide to make it entertaining, cause who the f wants to read.

Mod 1:
K&N cold air intake
My experience modding the G-photo730.jpg
Added performance: *
Nothing until a tune
Added sound:
F*#% yeah I love the hiss
Installation difficulty: *

Mod 2:
Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer
My experience modding the G-photo321.jpg
Added performance: *
Again, nothing until a tune
Installation difficulty: * *

Mod 3:
Greddy evo exhaust
My experience modding the G-photo726.jpg
Added performance: *
Again, nothing until a tune
Added sound:
Eh, I think I like full stock exhaust better
Installation difficulty: * *

Mod 4:
Tein S-tech for 350z
My experience modding the G-photo302.jpg
Added performance: *
These drop an additional .5" lower than advertised Z drop on a G.
Added style:
Duh. Static 'til the day I die and afterwards.
Installation difficulty: * * * * * * * * F@$&

Mod 5:
Koni Adjustables "better traction for the whole shot" -lolol
My experience modding the G-photo551.jpg
My experience modding the G-photo668.jpg
Added performance: * * *
3 stars for the dampening adjustability. I can go soft to hard in seconds. With a few things..
Installation difficulty: * * * * * * * * F@$&

Mod 6:
Mishimoto radiator
My experience modding the G-photo656.jpg
My experience modding the G-photo776.jpg
Added performance: * *
- 2 stars for reliability and seems like it could handle a track day
Installation difficulty: * * * * * Not a direct fit like advertised

Mod 7:
Mishimoto hoses
My experience modding the G-photo716.jpg
Added performance:
Crap quality, one popped a few months in. Replaced it with oem and no problems since.
Installation difficulty: * * * * draining and bleeding coolant is never fun.

Mod 8:
eBay strut brace
My experience modding the G-photo199.jpg
Added performance:
Placebo effect
Installation difficulty: * *

Mod 9:
Gt spec front lower tie brace
My experience modding the G-photo944.jpg
Added performance: *
A small increase in stiffness and handling feel
Installation difficulty: * * *

Mod 10:
Kinetix front camber arms (upper A-arms)
My experience modding the G-photo219.jpg
Added performance: * *
2 stars due to the fact that you get permanent camber angle once you establish where you want it. Which is god sent.
Installation difficulty: * * *

Mod 11:
SPC rear camber arms
My experience modding the G-photo678.jpg
Added performance: * *
Good alignment helps prevent future problems
Installation difficulty: * * *

Mod 12:
XXR 521 20" 8.5" Front 10.5" Rear
My experience modding the G-photo512.jpg
Added performance: - * *
Negative stars. These are heavier then my original 19" forged rays. The key to improving performance on the G35 lies in reducing weight and rotational mass. These do the opposite for both.
Added style: * *
Hate on fakes all you want but I think these look great. No, I wouldn't put them on a 911. But I would put them on our sold out G or this van which you hate to admit looks decent.
My experience modding the G-photo20.jpg
Installation difficulty: * *

Mod 13:
Pirelli Pzero 305 rears
My experience modding the G-photo734.jpg
Added performance: * * * *
I have a hard time breaking traction now because these are so wide and sticky. But let me tell you. Lighten your G and put some good tires on it and you'll feel like it's a new car.

Mod 14:
Anzo headlights
My experience modding the G-photo985.jpg
My experience modding the G-photo264.jpg
Added performance: - *
Low beam: crap
High beam: crap
Leds: kinda cool
Built in halos: cool af
Anybody who actually entertains aftermarket headlights gets these Anzos with the black housing. They don't look bad at all. I sold my projectors and bought these with a couple hundred bucks left over so I'm not complaining.
Installation difficulty: * *

Mod 15:
JDM side clear side marker w/ bump
My experience modding the G-photo870.jpg
Added style: * *
I love the bump. Most don't. But I love it.
Installation difficulty: *

Mod 16:
Brembo calipers + Z1 upgrade package
My experience modding the G-photo638.jpg
My experience modding the G-photo366.jpg
Added performance: * * *
It's a shame Infiniti got rid of the brembos for the 06/07. @Jerseytaylor pointed out these remanned brembo calipers by A1 Cardone and I'm so glad he did. The Z1 upgrade package isn't playing around either.
Installation difficulty: * * * * * took prob. 10 hours
Price: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Mod 17:
Osiris Uprev w/ BPU
My experience modding the G-photo956.jpg
Added performance: * * *
It's been said this will "wake up your G". Once I did i understood what that meant. Put some 99 octane in that B$&@% and open her up. You won't be disappointed. But remember, NA isn't even in the same ballpark as forced induction. Don't get you hopes up too much.

Mod 18:
Stillen front & rear sway bars
My experience modding the G-photo408.jpg
Added performance: * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Ok I might be exaggerating a bit, but honestly, best mod for the money by a long shot. Trust me trust me trust me. You're welcome.
Installation difficulty: * * *

Mod 19:
Auto trans shift direction reversal
Added performance: *
Love it so much. Couldn't imagine shifting without it.
Installation difficulty: *

Mod 20:
Kenwood 5 channel amp
My experience modding the G-photo849.jpg
Great power generation, middle of the line. Fits perfectly under the passenger seat without interfering with any of the seat movability.

Mod 21:
Kicker comp sub
My experience modding the G-photo468.jpg
Doesn't hit very hard, but gets the job done. I'm not trying to vibrate the doors off like some dudes though.

Mod 22:
Rear seat delete and spare tire delete.
Do it. You're welcome.

Here's a few shots I recently took of her doing her Christina Aguilera dirty impression:

Lastly, wanna know who's the best damn vendor for the whole G/Z scene?
Z1 by a damn mile. I've dealt with so many vendors and they were all inconsistent, slow, flakey, and usually careless. Z1 actually gives a F. When I needed a very unique evap relocater bracket in order to install my exhaust I called everywhere. (I'm not even gonna go into detail on the rarity and complexity of this bracket, it'll make your eyes bleed). When I called Z1, they were like (in a southern accent) "yeah man, we got some. We'll ship one out today."

But then you totally redeemed yourself here.

I've been saying for years if I could do one and only one mod to the G it would be sways. My preference are the Motordyne but you just can't go wrong with Hotchkis, Stillen or the MD. They all kick azz!!!

Good advice Plenumcoupe! I often wish I'd left SLICK stock and had all those $$ in my pocket! In 2005 I attended a Toys For Tots show and won a Best G35 trophy with only exhaust and my first set of Volks, turned me into an addict! I believe mods hurt resale value but then I've had 12 years of great fun and never fail to get constant thumbs up! Is there a reason you haven't painted your grille and front bumper?
Like your thread...Gary

It's surely worth the effort cause we all still love our cars after all the wasted money! And I'm holding off because the whole car is gonna be repainted black.

I have P2M adjustables but it's the sways and which hole you connect the end links to that make all the difference.

Kinetix fuca

Can u add more feedback on kinetix fuca? so I heard that it is a blind adjustment? how much angle is a full 360 degree turn of the ball joint? a lot of alignment shop hated it for that reason since you have to guess and remove the wheel again if you don't get the spec you want? how'd you dealt with this BOE?

It's not blind at all. Each turn is worth .3 degrees of camber. Best way to do it is with the initial setup make them the same size as the stock arms, then go two full turns out (longer; aka .6 degrees positive), take it to an alignment shop, measure where it's at and you'll only need to fine tune once from there. It took my tech about 30 seconds to fine tune it with me there showing him how they worked.
