do all G's have oil burning problems?
I've been wanting a G for a really long time. Found one in my price range FINALLY. I've really wanted the 07-08 sedan but I found an 05' coupe that I like for 6k negotiable and it only has 84k miles. Now the only thing I'm hesitant about is i know the g's have oil burning problems. Is there anyway to fix this? And should I look for any signs if I go to test drive this g?

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
I won't pretend to speak for all G's but my 05 5AT sedan with 137K miles drinks oil like I used to drink vodka. She goes through at least 2 qts. between 5K mile changes with synthetic and almost as much in 3.5K miles on conventional oil. She's been maintained perfectly her whole life, those on here that know me know she was/is my baby and she's been treated as such. Yoshi ^^ is on the money with his advice. If you're worried about the OC issue start with the 08 coupes and the 07 sedans when looking since the VQ35DE was phased out for those years and up.

Parks23 as the members stated above the Oil burning issues isn't a big deal for some but it is for others-as it requires some attention (checking, refills etc) I had DE's not G or Z's but they were Maxima's and they were using some oil(not bad at all,but still they did) now I have a 07S Sedan (HR) and she's a great no oil consumption at all,and she's more powerful then my DE's with bolt-ons,not to sound negative in any shape of form but IMO the HR is better engine over the DE's!

They will burn oil in some amount, whether its a very small insignificant amount, or 1qt or more between oil changes. It'll all depend on the condition, use, and maintenance of the car. Mine burns less than a quart between changes so I just add a quart halfway.
If you are comfortable with that, then go for it. Although its better to have the 06/07, or 08 coupes if you can afford those.

On another note it is possible to burn oil if your pcv valve is not functioning correctly. This part is considered a regular maintinece item but is very often overlooked luckily it is a very easy, cheap replacement. With that said the others here are correct that the rev ups engines rings are the biggest culprit.

That's a frickin ton of oil being burned by your G.... and at only 85K miles. Your rings are looser than a $2 *****. Can you hear piston slap/knocking sounds?

Why are people using synthetic with these motors? My dealer vehemently discourages synthetic on these cars even though they could get an additional $50/oil change. Even Infinti states in the owners manual in black and white
"INFINITI recommends mineral based oils.
These oils must however, meet the API quality and SAE viscosity ratings specified for your vehicle"
Yet people trying to outsmart the engineers who designed the car and reinvent the wheel thanks to internet. Synthetic oil is not a panacea. Just use mineral oil on older G's and change it every 4k miles or sooner. Not all older cars are designed to be run on synthetic.

On the VW/Audi B5 platform they recommending 5k changes on regular conventional oil. Guess what happened? A class action settlement involving nearly 500k A4s and Passats due to engine sludge when following those recommendations.
