Rice or Nice? R8 blade on g35

Hey guys! Just joined the forum, been lurking for almost a year now
So I stumbled across this r8 design on here and other forums before, where it was mostly made fun of because of How poser-like it is. I agreed, but couldn't get over the fact that it actually looked nice... I thought well that's actually a shame, because if the r8 wasn't a thing I'm sure this design would be applauded and used often. So my semester at college just ended and I had some free time, so went ahead and did a mockup and then went at it with (the dreaded) plastidip. I doubt this is gonna be something I keep on the car, but I felt sorta like it deserved to be brought to life, for however short lived a time. So I'm just here to ask yall your opinions! Yes, no? Any other comments on the car? And thanks for having me!

Love your choices in the poll broski!!

I voted rice because it's definitely something I wouldn't do to my car but if you like it rock it. Screw what everyone else thinks.................to a degree of course.

God awful. Peel that **** off now you don't drive an Audi TT. Remove all the badging so at least you don't get associated with my car.

Why can't people leave the car stock as is. Looks so good stock.

Woah! Haha well firstly I think it's only the r8 that has the side blade, not the TT, and as I said before I was just experimenting :/ But I don't think you alone bear the burden of representing all g owners man, so anything someone else does doesn't really reflect on or affect you.

And if everyone just left their car stock the g community wouldn't be what it is! Half the fun is creating something you're proud of and just owning it

But thanks for the opinion man, I'll take that as a nay lol

It just doesn't flow with the G lines. maybe if you had more black contrast in other areas like roof, truck...etc it would pull together a little better.
On a side note, an R8 that has theirs paint matched actually looks really good, so I'd say leave your car stock in that area.

^Agree! I do like the concept, but it just doesn't fit right as is. I think the roof idea would definitely help. And yeah of course haha the r8 is in a league of its own and does this so well, I think it's the fact that the blade is dimensionally/physically separate from the panel that makes the whole effect so profound and striking. Great points man!

Makes it look like you half-azzed some body repair and didn't bother to finish.
Where did you wake up the next day?

It's godawful on the G. Don't you dare. You may be able to argue the "your car your choice" viewpoint, but this is not "your choice". It's not your idea as iconic symbolism, this is a marking that Audi came up with to represent their product (much to the same effect as the extreme catamaran fenders of the corvette) and brand as something unique, not a simple wheel change or "projector vs reflector" upgrade. That blade is iconic to a very specific car and to put it elsewhere is literally rape of culture.

While I don't believe that it looks awful, I'm not a fan of the look. Nor do I really like it on the R8, but at least on the Audi it is an attempt to draw focus on the vents on the sides (I would prefer them to blend instead of stand out myself) . As was mentioned in part above, if you were to do vinyl/plastidip/paint in areas which highlight some of the natural divisions and curves of the G, then it may look very nice.

It wouldn't be something I'd do to my coupe, but it's your ride...not mine or anyone elses...Gary
