Can't get my new AC belt to stop squealing
Can't get my new AC belt to stop squealing
05 Coupe
The belt is new and the tensioner + pulley was used off another G but was in good condition. My old tensioner wouldn't tighten enough.
Anyway, during a cold start the belt chirps for a second and goes away. But if I switch the AC on it squeals like hell and only goes away when I accelerate for a little and let the belt stop slipping.
Pushing on the belt it doesn't have too much slack. I've went back and tightened it 3 times. It feels tight enough. But I guess I'll have to go back and try again. Any ideas? Maybe an actually new tensioner and pulley this time?

Factory tension is pretty tight. The tensioner pulley is simply a bolt and should not go bad, unless the bearings are shot. Did you loosen/retighten the pulley nut when making adjustments?
One thing you can count on from Nissan is good rubber parts, replacing belts and wiper blades that's where I get them! The previous posts are also a possibility, tensioner and tightness...Gary
When I would loosen the pulley nut even a tiny bit, the entire pulley would fall to the lowest position with no effort. And wouldn't tighten nearly enough. The "new" one I got solved this problem but I'm gonna go tighten it some more and see what happens.
