Quick questions about over revving
Quick questions about over revving
EDIT - i did some digging and found out that redline is at 7k but fuel cutoff is 7400, meaning that the "true" redline is 7400 rpm, does that mean i still over revved? Or am I okay? Im sorry for all the questions, I'm pretty mechanically savvy but not when it comes to engine internals, thanks again!
Hey guys, so I had a few questions about the rev limiter in our cars
I drive what i believe to be a stock REVUP coupe, and today I decided to have some fun with it, and gave a quick first gear pull, as i got close to about 6500 rpm I hit a bump and accidentally floored it and the car revved to 7400? This really confuses me because it should have hit the limiter at 7k.
In case you were all wondering, I wasn't street Racing or anything, I've just been away from my car several months and wanted to hear her scream. Also i did not downshift or anything to override the limiter
Any help is appreciated. Immediately went home and left her running and listened for any noise or knocks/valvetrain slop, hoping my tach is just messed up?
Is it possible that maybe the previous owner tuned out the limiter? The car pulls much harder than my previous 03 6MT, but to my knowledge it has no cam work or anything done to it, any insight is appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for the quick response, and that's what i figured, it just makes no sense to have that on a stock car? Oh well, no CEL and no loss of power so hoping all's well I guess we'll just wait and see
Your car will be fine. Doing that every once in a great while for a quick second here and there won't do any damage to your engine. If you held it there for a while it would though. 7400 isn't THAT high anyways compared to the stock redline. If you managed to get it up to like 9000 by downshifting into too low of a gear, then you'd be legitimately worried..... particularly since it would have been under load while revving that high too.
