I live in the horse heaven hills region of southeastern Washington State, we have hills, lots of them. 88mpg is insane, that's pushing Suzuki Alto territory (Geo Metro), damned shame they stopped importing that vehicle to America, a friend of mine has one in the netherlands and regularly gets 90+mpg...

 

Yeah, it's similar to a Geo metro, but doesn't feel underpowered like the metro because of the assist motor. Also the gearing is different than a metro. Veeeeeeerrrrryyyy tall gears. 1st goes to 35mph (redline - 6krpm), second goes to 65mph and third is tall enough to go to the vehicles limitations. 4th and 5th are ODs. 4th I personally find useless.
