What is this part and should it be disconnected like this?

I just bought this car and love it already but what is this wire and what should I do about it?

What year and trans is your car? Do you currently have a check engine light? Are those connectors just ziptied to the front?

Those green and blue connectors are for the variable exhaust cams on the revup engines found in 05+ 6MT cars. Without knowing anything else, it looks like the engine was replaced with a regular DE engine, that doesn't have the variable exhaust cams. A replacement revup engine is actually a pain to find, so a lazy shop just stuck an engine in there.

You probably have orphan connectors on the back of the heads near the firewall also, for the exhaust cam sensors. Plus a check engine light.

They might have replaced the ECU as well?

You should check to make sure your check engine light even works, turn the key to.ON (don't start the engine though) and it will do a lamp check of everything on the dash.

its a 2005 g35 coupe 6mt, the odometer says it has 103k miles... so this is probably an engine swap? i had no cel since i bought it but there was a low tire pressure light on at one point. whats the difference in the rev up engine and this one? do yall think i got f*cked? i paid 6k for it and i know it needs a throwout bearing thats all i know and i thought id just get a whole new clutch while im at it. it whines when it idles and i press the gas, but goes away when i engage the clutch. damn i hope i didnt get f*cked that bad lol

hey, so I just set it to on and it seems like every light is on, as they should be right? Does this mean my check engine light should work if there’s a problem? I hope he didn’t disconnect whatever would make the car throw codes or something...

Without looking at the car, can't say if you've been screwed yet. It is very possible this has an engine swap, an 05 6MT should have the revup engine.

When doing the light check, you should see an orange "service engine soon" light.



The light is an LED, so it's not exactly easy to disable like pulling a bulb on older cars. The best test is to plug in a scan tool and see if any codes are there.

The revup engine has exhaust cam phasers, as seen here:



The non-revup engine from automatic Gs, or all 03-04, don't have exhaust phasing, only intake:



I have no idea if the wiring harness supports swapping the ECU, but if a shop installed the wrong engine I doubt they have the tools to reprogram the immobilizer.

So I still have a chance to have a cel or any other codes even though the light check is okay?

Probably do not have a CEL but it won't hurt to throw an OBD2 scanner on it anyways. Not every diagnostic trouble code turns on the CEL and if they did swap ECUs then it wouldn't even be looking for the exhaust cam solenoids or phase sensors.

so i beeb getting used to the lowness of the car and looks like I scraped so hard I made a hole in the exhaust in a braided looking part under the driver side. Would I throw a code for this? Cause I haven’t got one yet, thinking about just having an exhaust shop weld a pipe in that broken part when I get tj muffler and resonator removed smh

That's one of two flex duct sections on the Y-pipe. Just get a new Y-pipe they're reasonable priced. It will throw a sensor2 O2 sensor code yes.

Another issue I’m hearing is this when the car is running and when the rpms build up, but goes away if clutch is held in. It’s very loud and annoying. Any idea what it is?

yup i got my cel today getting this exhaust looked at this weekend. It’s in pretty rough shape this car is going to be a bit of a project -_-

Fixed my clutch. So I was doing a gear oil change and only half a quart came out, is that normal? I went ahead and still put the 3.something quarts it needs and now it’s leaking. I did replace the washer on the bolt and it’s coming from around the y pipe cause it’s leaking onto ththe exhaust and I can smell it while I drive
