Minor accident need advice

Heres the story,

I was early for school, I got in at about 8:20am and my Statistics class didnt start until 8:45am. So I decided to just stay in the car in the heat (Northeast is colldd) until about 8:30am. Im laying down when all of a sudden I head a THUD from the front of the car. I lift my head and I see this lady with a white honda odyssey reversing and trying to get the hell outa there. So I quickly start the car and chase her down and after a min or two she finally parked. I got out of the car, as you would imagine FURIOUS, and I asked her what she was thinking? And I look at my car and its a minor scratch, not too deep just enough to get the paint off but still when your 18 and your paying for the car, every little ding and dent hurts and burns your wallet. I got her licence number, her tag number, but the thing is she doesnt have insurance. I filed a police report so just incase she fails to pay for the car I have proof that she hit me. The police gave me her insurance info (the one she suposedly didn't have), They said the policy is under her fathers name and not hers so that may be why. So what do you guys think I should do, should I let her pay for it under the table, or should I go through insurance. Im going to the Infiniti dealer in the afternoon to get an estimate, and I'll see what they say. It should be less than X < $200.

Sorry guys just had to vent about irresponsible drivers

I'd have been even more pissed for her running off. And I'd definitely report it to her insurance since she did try to run. I'd not cut her any slack at all. People like that suck - if you hadn't been there, you would have never known.

it happened to me in my previous car. I know accidents happen, but people who run off and don't own up to it get no sympathy from me.

Good luck.

Wink Screw her!

You should definately go through the insurance route and file a police report for the "Hit and Run". It makes sure that you are definately covered and it will be the best way for her to learn to be more responsible on the road.
****ty drivers Should have to pay more insurance!
Unless of course she is cute, then you suggest the "under the table payment" happens in a bar/restaurant, then offer to buy her a drink or lunch!
You dont get screwed on the car and then maybe you will get screwed later that night !

not sure how it is in the u.s. with insurance... but here in canada i would just do it under the table. i'd rather the insurance companies didn't jot down that little note. plus, she seems willing to pay for her mistakes, why aggravate the situation further? no offense either here.... but... i assume your in highschool looking at your age. when i was in highschool i drove my mom's car once and a while... got dings and scratches all the time. your parking in a lot full of uneducated drivers. i'm surprised u've made it that far without any more dings and scratches. hope it works out.

I would suggest taking the money as long as it covers the repair. I'm not sure if you are aware of this but when you report this to your insurance your insurance pays for it and bills the other insurance the money for the repair. Even though your insurance is not losing any money they have you on a record as a claim. This was the info I was told by a company called ALLSTATE in Canada.

I say take the money get it fixed = no trace or reports at all...

I suggest the "under the table method." She probably already feels bad enough. Parents probably know about it. It wasn't the parents fault that she hit your car. The direct person should pay for the mistake....not the father that pays the insurance. Of course she'll get a mouth full from the dad, but I think going after her money pocket is a better lesson than her dad's money pocket.

My G was recently hit while parked outside my church. The guy who hit it left me a note and he ended up using his insurance to pay for the damages. He was a college student and was also insured through his parents.
If the damage is just a few scratches I would say you leave the choice up to her on whether to go through insurance or not since it won't affect your insurance any. Since she obviously had no intention to take care of the damages when it occurred, I would make damn sure she pays for every last penny it takes to fix the scratch. Unfortunately for me I've had too much experience with fixing scratches on my car and my wife's FX. If the paint scratch is on the bumper I'm pretty sure they will have to remove it and repaint the entire thing, which will probably cost $400+.
Anyway, good luck.
