So I'm moving from the midwest to California pretty soon and debating whether to buy a car here or when I get to California.

Given the large market out there, is it generally harder to get good deals in California?

i think it depends on the area in california. for example, it is apparently very difficult to haggle in socal. in norcal, you can negotiate a bit. once again though, it depends on the area and your negotiation prowess. i got my 05 6mt coupe for about $1300 off msrp. i've recently heard another member who got $1000 over invoice (that's about $2000 off msrp). we're both in norcal. another thing to keep in mind....SALES TAX!!! here in cali, it's about 8 % depending on the city.

Not True!
I was under the impression that the So Cal market was tough, even for 5AT. But I have been shopping around, mostly through internet quotes, and I have gotten some great prices! I am going to pick up my DG/graphite 5AT coupe with premium and sport for 300 over invoice tomorrow (MSPR 37,480, my price 34,648!!). I was very surprised to get such a low price. Several other dealers were within a few hundred bucks of that price.

So be patient, be persistent and you WILL get a good price.
