Recline on both seats doesn’t work

2006 G35

Ive been through any of the manuals that involve the seats and can’t find what I’m looking for.

The back and forth work on both seats & the heated seats work. Both both driver and passenger seats do no recline up or down. Is there a specific fuse for this? The likelihood that both motors or switches going bad seems to be too high.

i just purchase this car on the 28th of Dec, so I’m not sure the wear and tear on the car. I just had my mechanic go over the entire car (mechanical) and there are no leaks and everything from the breaks, exhaust, engine, drivetrain, etc are in great shape.

This problem I’m posting plus the problem with the fuel gauge are my only immediate fix projects. Once I complete this, I can start working on trivial things.

Thank you in advance for any and all help

The seat movement switches are prolly the most problematic things on these cars. The contacts get dirty and need to be cleaned.

Thank you; I’ll try cleaning them tomorrow and report back.

I guarantee that's your problem. You'll need to remove the switches and take them apart to clean them. On the sedan you need to take the seats out not sure about the coupes. Before you do this though buy a can of electrical contact cleaner and spray it into the switches working the switches back and forth to see if that fixes the issue. Probably won't but if it does it's a cheap and easy fix.

If you take the switches out be very careful taking them apart. There's a small metal bar and 2 ball bearings in there and it's easy to lose them. More than likely they'll have some debris on them, just use a qtip with either rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner and get them clean then reassemble. You should be fine after that.

Don't forget about the spring. Had one pop out on me putting it back together and had a fun time finding it.

Wondering if there's anything that could prevent the issue. Maybe a dab of lithium grease? I've done my passenger seat once and after a couple years the seat is stuck again, luckily in a comfortable position. Good time to vacuum and collect some change at least

Thanks for bringing up the spring, I forgot it was in there. The grease may be a good idea or the white lithium grease spray might work as well.
