I got a sticky clutch pedal once in awhile. What should I replace besides the clutch slave cylinder?

Have you inspected the linkage for any possible gunk that a previous owner might have sprayed onto the moving parts? I once had this issue on a vehicle and it turned out to be a ton of sound deadening material that someone had packed around everything and it would catch in the clutch pedal ever so often.

 

Hello, did you figure out what was the problem? last saturday I went to the store, it was around 78-80F and after a couple minutes into my drive I noticed the clutch didnt come back completely, it kept getting worse and worse and I had to use my foot to bring it back completely every time I clutched. Next day I had a short drive to the park, it was 63F and no problems with the clutch, after 2 hours of the car being parked, I drove back(8 minute drive) and it was 78F and no problems.
My car is a 2004 G35 6MT with 151K miles, I replaced the clutch about a year ago, I dont think the slave and/or master cylinder has ever been replaced though, I did notice the nut on the clutch pedal was a litle lose, I didnt touch it though. I wonder if the outside temp is a factor, i have read that some peole have this problem on a hot day, I've never had this problem before regardless of temp.

 

For some odd reason It happened to me a few times like you said when it's really hot out . It didn't happen all last year for some odd reason I haven't figured it out but if you do let me know because I'm sure it's going to happen again. It's probably just cylinder or the adjustment on the pedal

 

did you end up replacing the fluid like they suggested? or the the master/slave cylinder? or did it just go away? I have a 1K trip next week and would hate to have a sticky clutch on a 18 hour drive.

 

Hello, I took my car to a Nissan/Infiniti specialist close to my house, I have taken my car there before, they are good but a tad pricey in comparison to the other shop I take it to but it's further away. Either way, I told them about the clutch they said it might be something wrong with the plate because the clutch was hard but I told him the clutch is hard and it has been like that for more than 8 years, I also told him that I had changed the clutch about a year ago, so they went and bled the fluid and seems it was dirty, they replaced it with Dot 4 and it actually ended up messing it up, long story short, Saturday the clutch got sticky when it was hot out, Sunday the clutch was working fine again, Tuesday when i drove it there it was fine, they bled the fluid and now the clutch is permanently sticky, they said that changing the master cylinder will fix the problem, i asked if the slave should be changed as well and he said the slave was perfect, I kinda "trust" these guys, of course with a grain of salt, I don't have much of an option since i am driving to Miami next week, 18 hours, about 1000 miles one way. I will update tomorrow after they change the master cylinder, he said it would be around $350 plus tax BTW.

 

It might actually just be the pivot point on the pedal, spray it down with some silicone lube spray.

 

hello, so my last update, I hope on this issue, they changed the master cylinder($85) and replaced the fluid to Dot 4, they also applied a silicon based lubricant better than lithium grease(apparently this grease eventually will bake). The clutch is much smoother and I have not noticed a sticky pedal since then, the big test will be next week when i drive to Miami(18 hours, 1000 miles +-).
