A knock or bad timing chain rails or w.e it’s called? Please help
So My dad helped me get the G35 (04 coupe 5AT)after begging him for a awhile it’s currently sitting at 130k miles and recently the timing belt broke off and had to get the car towed, all was fine except for when I was starting the car up in the cold it would make an annoying squeaky sound u hear a lot of cars make, I didn’t think much of it thought the mechanic just didn’t tighten it but recently I feel like I’m hearing a faint knock and the cars sounding different, it sounds rough like a exaust leak of sorts. I know for a fact there’s a rip in the stock intake, the leathery looking part is ripped so after doing a little research and listening to what a engine knock sounds like I’m scared as hell that that’s what it is but someone in the comments pointed out how it could be the timing belt railings, please tell me as to what it is or how I can hopefully solve this issue. Sorry if I messed up by posting it wrong. First time, thanks in advance
First off, these cars have a timing chain, not a belt. Are you talking about the serpentine belt (aka belt that drives the power steering pump, alternator, and A/C compressor.)
If the timing chain did break on you, that's quite bizarre. I rarely hear nor see a chain fail/break. If it did, I can't imagine there not being any other damage to the engine. The FWD VQ's they put in Maximas and Altimas had issues with the main timing chain 'slack guide' breaking apart, but I haven't heard of it happening with the RWD VQ's (G/Z's).
If that intake boot is cracked, odds are the car is running lean, since intake air is not getting accounted for by the MAF sensor.
When is the car knocking? Under acceleration? or is constant? Record the sound or take a video if you can-

It's probably pinging not knocking.
Don't drive an obviously malfunctioning car unless you are fine with putting a new motor in it. This is basic auto knowledge that's existed since the dawn of the automobile.
Troubleshoot, fix obviously broken parts, make a video because words can't accurately describes the sound you year. Upload to YouTube and post the link here.
