Gauges

In my G coupe i am moldin in two spaces for gauges. i dont have a turbo or nethin done to my engine except an intake. one of my buddys recomended an air fuel ratio and an exhaust gas temp. the guy i was plannin on gettin those from wants $120 for the air fuel ratio and $245 for the exhaust gas temp., and i was wonderin if that would be a rip off? it seems really expensive, and i wanted them to be blue in the background and actually work instead of a boost gauge when i dont have a turbo. also i was wonderin if they are hard to install yourself? which ones do you recomend i put in my G? they are molded in under my JVC cd/dvd player if that helps with anything. so if you could just let me kno those things that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Neal

I had Autometer gauges in one of my previous cars. I don't think they should run you more than $60/each for basic gauges, and $100 for the newest digital ones.

a A/f and EGT is not necessary for a non-turbo car. I'd get a oil pressure and a volt meter gauge instead. That would be more useful.

That's right- EGT is really not necessary. I would still suggest an A/F- especially if you plan to add test pipes/high-flow cats in conjunction with an exhaust system.

i don't think any gauges are necessary for a nearly stock car..

you're paying 120 bucks for a light show. your buddy must like to waste money on those things..

if you're going FI a cheapo a/f gauge is useless unless it is a wideband (ex. AEM not autometer or greddy etc.)

a voltage gauge is very useful it let's you know the condition of your charging system and can give you forewarning if your battery is about to die or may need to replace your alternator before the problem arises and you're left with a dead battery and a car that won't start.

an oil pressure gauge is also useful in that it can give you a little bit of warning before the idiot light comes on if you lose oil pressure.

I think our car should have come with these stock as a lot of performance oriented cars have these gauges.
