Hey guys, I picked up a G a couple of months back. It's a G35 07 coupe.
Lots of fun to spin around in, but it's been kind of brutal using it as my daily. It's really low and I have to be really careful every time I go up a slope etc, the bumper scrapes and speed bumps are a nightmare. It's also really bumpy, the guy I got it from put some aftermarket coil-overs in the front and they don't seem to be great quality. I adjusted the ride height a bit but I was only able to squeeze out an extra two inches or so. With all that being said, I have a couple of questions.
First off, what are some decent coil-overs that won't make my entire car shake when I hit a bump? I want something with adjustable dampening (I would set them to a softer ride usually) and ride height (preferably higher ride height where I won't have to worry about getting murdered on speed bumps). My price range is between 500-800, you guys have any good suggestions? I'd love to hear them!
"Coilovers for a daily driver" is basically an oxymoron. I've never heard of a set of coilovers that weren't harsh, they're meant for track use and always have extremely high spring rates.
I think you need to ask yourself what ride height you WANT and see if something like the OEM revised 350Z springs will work for you. They're 1/2" lower in the front than the stock springs. Rear is the same height and you trim down the upper rubber perch 1/2" to match the front IF YOU WANT.
Here is my car on revised 350Z springs with the rear shaved down about 3/8" to match the gap, 15mm spacers front 25mm spacers rear. I rarely rub, feels firm and sporty with Bilstein B6 struts/shocks but is absolutely daily driver comfortable. Front fenders are rolled, rears are not.
You won't find any comfort coilovers in that price range. Like Cleric said, most cheaper ones will have really high spring rates. Many people run BC or Stance(10k/8k), I have the BCs but I wouldn't consider them that comfortable.
Here are a couple with softer springs:
Tein CS 7k/7k
Bilstein 6.5k/ 4.5k-7.5k progressive
