Looked at 03 g35 and need your help guys.
As the title says I looked at a 03 G35 AT. AND when I drove it the car does not accelerate as it should. It accelerates but pretty slow. The current owner said that it was because of the solenoid is bad. The CEL is on as well as (if i remember correctly) the traction control and vcs light. Is this something you guys have encounter. do you guys think it might new a new trans or rebuilt. Thanks for your help.
Plug in an OBD2 scanner and see what codes it's throwing, almost every local auto parts house will scan for free if you can get him to meet you at one.
Personally, I'd be hesitant to buy a 2003, look to see if it uses dual electric fans or if one of the radiator fans is belt driven. If it's got the belt driven fan I would pass, different ECM that cannot be tuned.
If it had the dual electric fans and it was something minor killing power then I wouldn't pay more than $2500 even if it was in excellent condition. As it sits right now with obvious issues I'd be more inclined to offer somewhere around $1500 if the body was straight and the interior was clean.
Traction control / VDC can be MANY things, you can put the system into diagnostic mode to pull it's code to find out what's triggering the system. Normally it's low brake fluid level and you just need to fill it up, but it could be MANY different things. I would be more concerned with why it doesn't have power, sounds like something is pulling timing due to whatever is throwing that CEL.

Thanks for the replay. He told me that it was a transmission solenoid code but he couldn't remember the exact code. The car has low miles but it got a rebuilt title and that makes the low miles questionable.
I think all the 2003 coupes were dual electric fan.
it is the sedans that were belt driven..and maybe the manual 2003 coupes as well..not sure.
My wife's 2003 at coupe has been a good car.
Get a bafx bluetooth obd2 from amazon and load the Torque Pro app on your phone and go talk to the car yourself.
$1500 seems about right...or less.
The car is easy to work on and handling is wonderful.
The coupe has better F/R weight balance than the 350Z.
This is the car that started it all.
Expect to go through the evap system (WOT response), at fluid change, cooling hoses+ (radiator and fans), throttle and pedal controllers...wheel bearings...shocks..front control arms/bushings....tuneup (sparks, cops and air filter).
Check for upper and lower oil pan for leaks, as well as valve cover gasket for leaks....you will cross that bridge.
Check the AC system.
But these are standard for any older car and still less than a than a car payment.
