overheating and h20 pump chain issues

Hi all,
I was experiencing overheating issues, which I thought may be normal for a 2007 G35 Coupe with 117K.

I ordered a new Mishimoto radiaotr, silicone hose kit, and thermostat.

Upon awaiting for my UPS man to show up with my new parts and solve my issue, I wondered about doing the h2o pump while I was at it.

I took off the cover and I believe the chain has slipped off the grears of the pump? There is some marring on the teeth and it would seem this may have actually been the culprit of my overheating issues.

My question is, what the hell do I do?

Obviously I will got get a new pump, but beyond that, is there a chain issue now?

What exactly am I looking at?

Is the chain behind the gears? It seems as though it may have slipped....

Thank God, I stopped to ponder this and opened it up, or it would seem, that I would have a bunch of new parts but not a functioning h2o pump.

Thank you in advance...

That chain is normal, if you look closely the chain "teeth" are only on the inboard and outboard edges, in the middle of the chain is a separate section that rides in this valley in the water pump sprocket. Here is a better look at the water pump.

I don't see anything abnormal in your pictures.

As for your overheating issue, anytime a vehicle is overheating the first step is to do a coolant pressure test to make sure it's even holding pressure. If it can't hold pressure it will just boil over and overheat, the coolant loop is basically a big pressure cooker that needs to build like 8-10psi of pressure for it to function under load.
