I just bought a 2003 g35 coupe a few weeks back from a private owner. The one problem I was told was the leak from the valve gasket but I should have definitely did more research. The vehicle had been sitting in the garage for atleast 6 months. I wasn’t told about the trans having issues and didn’t begin to notice it until about a week or 2 back when the engine light came on and the car would rev when I press the gas without any movement. I went to a mechanic I was referred to that specializes in Gs and 350zs and he let me know there were more problems than I had thought. He fixed the wiring in the fuse box next to the pedals, replaced valve gaskets, and showed some codes for the trans. Unfortunately, the coupe takes a 3 plug transmission and it is extremely difficult to find. I got 2 options from this diagnostic. Pay $1200 for the mech to put in a 3 plug he had lying around in his shop w 79k mileage or find a newish trans and have him install that one? Yet, I can’t seem to find any 3-plugs online only 1plug trans. What should I do? This is my baby. I do plan on giving her a makeover. Codes that were brought up. This is the third mech I went to in regards to this and they all had similar codes. Y exhaust pipe is damaged due to speed bumps most likely. Told me $200 to replace with a used one he had sitting around This is the replacement. Should I just go to an exhaust guy and have them do it with a newer exhaust

And not to pile on, but this is an abject lesson in why it is really important to get a pre-purchase inspection unless you yourself are qualified to do an inspection (preferably from a dealer in my mind, but certainly from someone really familiar with the platform). It is money well spent. If a seller won't let you take the car for an inspection, that's a red flag waving in your face with vigor to walk away. My current 2006 G was a garage queen with 26.5K mi. in 2017 on a Nissan dealer's lot as a trade-in. Still took it to an Infiniti dealer for inspection. Well worth the $130 then for peace of mind. I'm 68, only one factory new car ('79 VW Rabbit, 4-spd tranny death at 107 miles in 1987...no AC, and having moved from Ohio to NC, it wasn't worth keeping for the brutally humid summers), all others used, never had a lemon. Every used car I've ever bought: dealer, lot, craigslist dude...all with inspections. So far, so good. Including my 2006 Infiniti sedanX (RIP--insurance claim) bought from an Infiniti dealer as a trade-in. I took that car to a local Nissan 350Z specialist for inspection. Trust no one; verify.
I appreciate y'all both for the honesty. My lack of patience for my first beater was there and a big reason why. Only because it’s officially mine now, I gotta move forward and see where and when I can turn this lemon into something worthy. I don’t regret it cause I like Gs but if I can turn this around, I’ll gladly do so.

So the image with the codes is from the mech who specializes in 350z and Gs. He grilled me a bit worse than you did about buying this without proper preparation but did say that whatever plans I have with this car he would help me get the car to that standard or better. It’ll be a pretty penny but damn I just love Gs (modified or not)
