I was in the same exact dilemma as you in June 03. I decided on the G because I'm done with racing. I love the overall package that the G provides. If you still race, you'll be happier with the STi.

I too was deciding between a G35 and an STi.. I've wanted a G ever since it first came out and always considered it my first choice. The only reason why I considered the STi is because of weather conditions during winter time. It's horrible to drive in the snow with rear wheel drive in NY. Regardless, I chose the G35 b/c it was luxury and spots combined with style.. the STi is a great looking car but it reminds me of a life sized r/c... I would've definitely chosen the STi if I were a teen but now I just want class & luxury over sports.

The G35 is going to beat almost everyone in the random stop light runs. Its so rare that you will find someone who's faster that actually wants to try to beat you. Even when you find someone, its just fun to see them light it up even if they do beat you. Everyone respects the G Coupe. The STI gives up too much comfort for power IMO.

I was in the same boat, too! I had to choose between STi and G Coupe. I originally wanted STi due to its performance and mod-friendly nature. After I drove the G and saw the quality difference from STi, I just couldn't bring myself to buy an STi... Sure, G is no competition to STi in terms of performance, but G definately can hold its own, and is just better in everything else... like quality, comfort, features, looks, on and on and on. The only thing STi has over the G is performance. Plus STi seems a bit immature to me with the huge wing on the back and a huge hood scoop... Maybe I'm getting old, but I chose the G.

Just remember that you aren't paying $35k only for performance. With STi, you are paying $30k ONLY for performance. Just remember that there is always going to be someone faster than you no matter what car you have. But you can't go wrong with either car. It's up to you to decide what you value more: luxury with decent performance or superb performance with little to no luxury.

I suggest you go to either of these two sites and ask the same question.

Get both! That's what I did. Actually, I bought the STi and forced the wife to buy the G. Whenever we go somewhere together, we take the G.

In all seriousness, you should probably get the STi. The reason I say this is because I know that performance is very important to you...that is why you are even comtemplating an STi. If performance was not that important to you, you would probably be choosing btwn a G and a 330ci.

With the STi you can even get a smoother ride by getting some different springs (JDM Pinks) and this actually makes the car handle better. $375.

The G is more well rounded but does not kick a$$ in any one category (like the kid in school who got a "B+" in every subject). The STi is like that kid in 4th grade who was taking Calculus but could not even spell it.

Oh yeah...you shouldn't care what other people think.

i used to own a WRX (non-STi) before i got my G35c. Yes, the STi is faster (even a moderately modded WRX is) than the G35c. It's also more powerful. It'll get around a racetrack faster. It'll run the 1/4 mile quicker.

It's also a $30k+ car based on a compact sedan chassis and will show it's true colors as time takes it's toll on it. The interior is not much better than the WRX's, the sound deadening sucks. the suspension is overly stiff and not good for long drives. it's looks scream "boy racer" and will get the attention of any law enforcement within a 2 mile radius. if these are things you are looking for or auto-x (or open track days) then get an STi.

if you're looking for something quick, handles like a dream, and well appointed then get the G35c.

To tell you the truth............ how many STI's are you going to come up to at a stop light. There aren't that many out there for that! The G35 Provides performance, looks and luxury. The STI is straight Performance in my eyes in nothing else. Its fast but Ugly as all Hell. Get a car that you can drive on a regular basis and feel good driving it. If you want a track car then get the STI. It all comes down to you because your spending the money!

The STI will smoke the G off the line, no question... All wheel drive and 20 more horse.. (unless its an 05)..But I still think the STI would win..But the G is nicer, classier and much more pimp.

There is an old lady in my town, looks to be in her 50's, who I see occasionally driving around in an STI. I have no idea how the hell she ended up with an STI, I thought I was seeing things the first time I saw her, but sure enough I have seen her about 3 times now just moping along in it.

Doesn't pertain to this subject, I just wonder how she ended up with buying an STI

WOOHOO, it is POORING like crazy with lightning and thunder while I'm in my 2005 6MT G35 Coupe on the 60 freeway going 70mph feeling perfectly comfortable with my heated seats, climate control, and BOSE sound system. The whole storm is blocked out from me yet I can feel the solidness and quality of the G through the shift ***, pedals, and steering wheel... While doing this I have the ability to accelerate up to 80mph in a blink of an eye and bring her down to 50 with ease. Looking through pair of HIDs and FOGs while sitting on 19" shoes and 12" brakes lets me sit back and relax. Then i turn around and see cars struggling for traction while some have exited the freeway or pulled over.. While all this was happening my girl is sleeping in the passenger seat (at 70mph through a thunderstorm) while i had the bigget smile on my face.

and i'm still stock... =)

The decision is yours, just letting you know what door #1 feels like

Like you stated previously...the 2 are noncomparable...if you want a fast car, the STI...in NO way is the STI a "little luxury", i like it becuase it is a nice preformance car, but there is nothing luxurious about cloth seats and cheap plastic....everytime I see one, I think of a fast *** rally car, but cheap...What you want is the G, becuase it is very quick and looks smooth...This is a compromise of what you want....I could've gotten the Z or the G, both nice cars, but the G has that sleeker, cleaner look, inside and out...honestly, if you want the compromise of both, take the G...if you just want a fast *** car, get the STI...either way, you are not wrong...what ever makes you happy man...
