Why does Infiniti use Quaker State oil and Nissan use Mobil 1? They both said that they ain't synthetic. It's not like Quaker State better than Mobil 1

$54 sounds insane. Go to Nissan.

I just got my oil changed last week at Nissan since my Infiniti dealer is much further away.

Cost me $27. The G35 coupe uses a standard Nissan oil filter, so no trouble going to Nissan at all.

I don't really know why Nissan and Infiniti use different oils even though they are going in almost identical engines. Infiniti may have done their own research and determined that based on theri own findings that Quaker State is better suited to their needs. It could even be that Quaker State just gave Infiniti a really good sales presentation or something like that.

Infiniti dealership here in CO Springs charges $14 for labor if you bring in your own oil & filter. Amsoil synthetic is my choice...works like a charm. However, no car wash for me thank you. Dealership carwash = swirl marks on Black G.

I dont know where you guys get your info...and its kinda funny to be honest. The oil thats used at the dealership is whatever the dealership wants to buy, no orders from corprate other than the fact it has to be at least 5w30. Some use penzoil (id rather use gutter watter to be honest), some vlavoline, some mobil...it all varies depending on cost.

Sure it sounds biased because im an infiniti tech, but its better to go to a dealer in most cases. For example my truck: I take it to the dealer for the oil changes. I drop it off and while the oil is being changed I get free coffee, free bagels/danish/doughnuts, I can sit in big comfy seats and watch tv, and it gets washed so I dont have to...not to mention that the cost of doing it myself is only a few bucks less than the $34.95 they charge me.

BTW...as part of the "total ownership" thing. Infiniti tells the dealers that they MUST provide a clean comfortable waiting area with avalible bevrages and snacks, in addition the dealers must also provide a shuttle service and loaner cars. Look at the waiting rooms in infiniti and nissan delaers and you will see the difference.

Okay, i am going to call Infiniti and Nissan and ask for their labor cost. Then, i will go buy 5 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic. Let them supply me the OEM filter. Does that sound good?

That's $38 ($40 after tax) for fully synthetic. regular oil is about $1/quart so regular oil is about $18 done @ infiniti dealer. That's what I'm going to do from now on. If the dealer is taking care of everything, they charge me $38 after tax for synthetic blend.
what dealer is that in SD? 18$ for regular oil and car wash is a damn good deal.

I bring my own oil to the Infiniti dealer. They change it, wash my car, take a look over everything else (they noticed one of the seat's motors binding a bit when moving forward/backward) and I take out a loaner for the day....$40.

Although it doesn't take long to go to some express changer, or do it yourself. But, for $40, the only time taken out of my day is the time it takes to photcopy my DL for the loaner.

Ok you guys all have me confused as hell now. Im getting my coupe this Friday and when I need my first oil change I can either go to Infiniti which is about 90 miles in Atlanta or to Nissan which is 2 miles away. Usually in the past i have always been a loyal customer and brought my cars to the place I purchased so what do you recommend risking it at Nissan on a car thats not theirs' or playing it safe and going to Infiniti? thanks

benbo, I am the same as you for loyalty to the same dealer, I get all of my G's servicing done at the Infiniti dealers which is 80 miles away. But, there is absolutely no problem getting your cars oil changes at your nearby Nissan Dealer or whereever you want as long as you keep all records of servicing. The only thing is any warranty work must be performed at the Infiniti dealer.

Thanks Gee35 for your advice. Im more than willing to drive up to Atlanta to do all my servicing, it really gives me an opportunity to get away for the day and go to Atlanta. Plus they will have a loaner ready for me when I get there. I really dont trust the guys over at a nissan dealership for the fact that they do not service many infinitis im sure, and I know the infiniti will take better care of my baby since I bought it there to begin with. Should I tell them I only want synthetic oil when I go? thanks

That's why I don't mind driving the distance, the G is so much fun to drive .
Personally I would wait a few oil changes before switching to synthetic, to make sure everything is seated and broken in first. Talk to your dealer about synthetic, they might carry synthetic or you may bring in your preferred brand. There are lots of threads on synthetic oils on the board , check it out using the search, you find lots of good info.

I just got my free 3750 complimentary oil change, I opted to upgrade to Mobil 1 and they charged me $6.95 a quart, from now on I am bringing my own oil in and not having them wash my car.

Discover Infiniti in Escondido. Ask for Mike. Say Son sent you. He probably doesn't remember me, but he'll remember my car. It's a twilight blue G35c w/ yellow front head lights. He told me he can do it for me for $8.

Well, I called couple places about the oil change. Here is what I found.

Frontier Infiniti (close to my work)
$49.89 use Quickerstate—regular oil
$90.89 use Mobil 1—synthetic oil
If I bring my Mobil 1, they will take $40 off. So, it is still $49.89
Did my first oil change in Frontier Infiniti (Because it is close to work). Service was so so. Asked them to check the break, service manager forget about it??? Don’t want to go back there to have my oil change.

Infiniti of Serramonte (bought my car there)
$34.88 use Kendall--synthetic oil
If I bring my Mobil 1, they still charge $34.88
Good purchased experience from them, but haven’t had any services from there before. The service adviser told me Kendall--synthetic oil is giving better performance to the car. I may go back there to have my service.

Do you guy know anything about Kendall--synthetic oil? Is it good? Or the best still goes to Mobil 1?
