How's the oil change different from a Nissan Dealership and Infiniti Dealership
 

I called infiniti dealership today, they said the next avilable appointment is 2 weeks later. Just for an oil change??? And they change $55 + tax. I called a nissan dealership, which is only a few blocks from my house. They change 29 + tax. How's it different? They both use nissan filter. Nissan use Mobil 1 530 oil.

no difference. its just that the infiniti dealership has more expensive cars and can charge more, because its clients tend to have more $$$.

If you are looking to save yourself some money, just do it yourself

As Infiniti indirectly states on their literature you are paying extra for "The Total Ownership Experience". LOL :D

Okay, i called again. The nissan use Mobil 1 oil and infiniti use "Quickerstate". Which one is better? I assume they both are regular

Which Quaker State oil are they using? If it's dino oil, then you're getting doubly ripped off. Mobil 1 is synthetic, which is more expensive than dino oil.

$55 also sounds ridiculous because my last oil change at Infiniti was about $25.

Go for MOBIL 1

I doubt they are going to use mobil 1 for 29.00 dollars but I could be wrong.

Its just an oil change; take it to any express lube; just personally make sure someone is putting in the right type of Mobile one synthetic oil. I wouldn't put anything but synthetic in my cars.

Avoid express lube places like the plague. They are, for the most part, staffed by poorly trained high-school dropouts who frequently under/over fill engines and forget to reinstall the drain plug. There was just a thread on here the other day about someone who thinks he may have ruined his motor by taking his G35 to a Jiffy Lube.

oh, the Mobil 1 5W30 oil from Nissan is NOT sythetic. Just regular to regular comparsion.

I don't know about dealers around your area, but a dealer in SD will charge me $8 for labor (not bad for labor since they wash my car too) if I bring my own oil and filter. Filter on everythingG35 is $5 and 1 qt. of mobil 1 synthetic is about $5 (you need 4-5 so about 20-25 for oil). That's $38 ($40 after tax) for fully synthetic. regular oil is about $1/quart so regular oil is about $18 done @ infiniti dealer. That's what I'm going to do from now on. If the dealer is taking care of everything, they charge me $38 after tax for synthetic blend.

My dealer charge me around $17 for labor. I told them last time I was only charged $14 and wanted to know why the difference. The service manager claimed that they made a mistake last time or some bs. I didn't care for the $3 difference but it was the principle (charging for whatever the hell they want). I brought in my own oem filter and 5 quarts of chevron 5w30. Parts cost me $10. So total was around $30 including disposal fees.

Does that mean Kia will change my oil for like $7.99?

I saw that Infiniti is using Quaker State oil. If that is true, I would actually recommend taking your car to the Nissan dealership. The class that I'm in at my college right now is Automotive Engine Diagnosis. We did visual comparisons of different oils of most popular brands when they were fresh out of the bottle and we could actually see very tiny particles of something in the Quaker State oil. We nickname that kind of stuff "swill" in my class. All the other oils that we looked at looked normal including some synthetic Mobil 1. The Quaker State oil that we looked at was petroleum based so I can't really comment on their synthetic products. I personally use synthetic oil in my 2003 G35 and it works great. I run my 1993 Nissan Sentra SE-R on petroleum based oil and it runs great too, even with 190,000 miles on it. The major benefit of synthetic is that it has a wider operating temperature range and resists thermal breakdown better than petroleum based oils. So personally I don't think that it matters what type of oil you use. I would definatly go with synthetic if you run your engine hard though. I just thought I'd write about my personal findings about Quaker State. After seeing those tiny particles I would never personally use their petroleum based oils.
