Choosing between the Sedan and Coupe
Choosing between the Sedan and Coupe
I’m planning on replacing my daily driver 95 6-speed Acura Legend coupe with a G35, but am having a real problem choosing between a 6MT Sedan and a 6MT Coupe. Kids are grown, so I don’t need the extra doors.
Did you consider the sedan and what, besides the appearance, made the difference for you?
I much prefer the coupe’s appearance, and like the extra power. But I need all the trunk space I can get, and the coupe’s very small trunk is a major limitation. I also want a comfortable ride, and I am wondering if the coupe’s suspension may be too stiff. I drove a 6MT sedan and thought that the ride was good.
Thanks for your help,
Jim

Re: Choosing between the Sedan and Coupe
I chose the coupe without ever considering the sedan, but then trunk space and ride wasn't much of a consideration. There's no doubt that the coupe has a stiffer ride and it may be more uncomfortable for some.
It all comes down to your peferences - handling or ride quality. Best thing to do is test drive the coupe before you get it and see if you like how it feels, and if you think it's worth the sacrifice in ride and trunk space for the handling and sportiness.

and another thing, I guess would be the greater traction you may have wit the sedan compared to the coupe -if u live in an area that gets hit by snow. That's one of the problems I had, and still have wit the coupe..but you can spend an extra grand and get winter tires...

I'd go with the coupe. If you got a family go with the Sedan

Re: Choosing between the Sedan and Coupe
I have a coupe. Recently I had a sedan as a loaner while my car was being serviced at the Infiniti dealer. Here are my impressions, if they may help you.
The coupe is plain and simple a sports car. It rides much stiffer than the sedan and accordingly probably handles better. The Sedan I drove had 17" wheels, so I assume it had "sport suspension." It had a significantly softer comfortable ride and much lighter feel than my coupe with the 18" wheel performance package.
As far as power, the sedan is plently fast.
So, it just depends on what you want. A real sports car, or a sport sedan.
The coupe's great looks & performance made the decision easy for me.

Re: Choosing between the Sedan and Coupe
I've had both, and both are very good. The Sedan leans more toward practicallity and space and a little more comfortable ride. The Coupe more toward sport, with less space and less comfortable ride.
The Sedan was a great ride, but my choice for my lifestyle is the Coupe.
The trunk in the Coupe 'grows' if you let down the seat backs
As far a traction is concerned, if you're in the 'snow belt', you'll have to go with snow tires anyway whichever one you choose. G/L

Re: Choosing between the Sedan and Coupe
As far as power goes, the aftermarket parts for the sedan can push power up to close to the coupe's levels - and the sedan now comes with a 6MT option (mandatory for enthusiasts).
I chose the coupe over the sedan because this car was to be my "sports car" - not my "sports sedan". The only other car I considered was the 350Z. If I were looking for a sports sedan, I would have cross shopped the Lexus IS300, the BMW 3 Series, etc.
If this is "Daddy's-Toy", then I say get the coupe. If this is however, a second family car that's going to need to do double duty, you're probably better off with the sedan.
Good luck!

Re: Choosing between the Sedan and Coupe
I prefer the coupe because of the better styling (my opinion). If you need trunk room fold down the rear seat and get more storage than the sedan. If you need a third or fourth person in the car that is 5’8” or less they should be comfortable.
If you need trunk room and room for a third or fourth person get the sedan. If you just can’t wait for the 6MT to come in after you order get the sedan (or the Lexus es300, just KIDDING) (sorry platinumg35coupe ).
Take a good look at the reviews for both of them:

Re: Choosing between the Sedan and Coupe
i have a sedan and its no slug. im a single guy and the sedan is great when i have to drive people once in a while. its so much easier its a pain in the *** to get someone in the back of the coup. also the sedan is more civil @ cruising speeds but when you get on it, it sounds just like the coup. read this article it might lead you to the 6mt sedan.
