Exclamation Car & Driver Race Series coming to a city near you!

The CAR and DRIVER Race Series will begin this June with 20 events scheduled in 12 markets nationwide. Using a format unique to competitive racing events, participants will be presented with three driving skill challenges. Winners of these competitions in each market will ultimately compete in a national two-day championship. Entry fee is $99.

Stock G35 coupes are in the Touring 1 class, along w/ the Mazda RX-8, E36 M3, 330i ZHP, CTS-V, Audi TT, Jag S-Type R, E55 AMG, and Supra TT! Yikes, that's some stiff competition.

Modified G's go into the Grand Touring 1 group. The question is, if I just have a Z-tube, I hope they don't consider that modified?!?! That's like 3 HP max! Maybe they wouldn't even be able to tell? What do you think?

I've heard of programs like this before.

Unfortunately these things NEVER get to a city close to me. One of the crappy things about being in Hawaii.

That is good information!

I am in Plymouth, Michigan and it would be a thrill to see all those vehicles in action. However, the class of vehicles in the Touring class intrigues me. Surely, I would have no chance in hell against any vehicle in that class regardless of driving acumen. For example, the TT’s, M3, and the 400hp CTS-V.

Is there an expectation to win these races or is it the excitement of simply participating in said event. In addition, what category does the STI and the EVO MR fit? With the exception of F/I, I do not see that the G35 has any chance against any car shown above. In truth, the only vehicle that the coupe is capable of beating is the RX8, which would be difficult.

With all my modifications, I would be shoved into the Modified Touring 1 class (850 points). I would be better off leaving the car in the garage!

I'm definitely going to the event at Belmont Raceway in September. I am more concerned with having some fun driving as opposed to comparing numbers with other cars in and out of the class they put me in. [I am dead stock except for a K&N filter so I guess that places me in T3] That said, I will be taking the 100 lbs of crap out of my trunk because I don't want my numbers to look too bad.

However, I will be very interested to see if other members of this forum participate, particularly those that argue for or against certain performance mods. Since the same event is being held in over 20 locations throughout the US this looks like a good low cost way for people to 'put up or shut up' about alleged HP gains of their mods, differences between the coupe and sedan, differences between model years, etc. If we get enough people to participate and post their numbers maybe some of the unaswered arguments posted to this board will finally get answered. The only X-Factor will be the driver, and very few people will admit to being sloppy behind the wheel.

Maybe I should take my car for service and use the sedan loaner for this.
