Newb here with some Questions

Hey Guys whats going on. Just starting checking out the G35's I currently own a Porsche 968 and my miles are really starting to climb so im thinking about buying a G35. How is the upgradeability? I searched the forum and found some really usefull posts but the more info the better

Basically is there anything I need to know about these cars besides that they are bad ***? Such as differences in years ,issues, things that are must do's? Im just trying to learn more about these cars so let me know whatever you think is usefull

Im looking to spend about 27-30k at the absolute most but the cheaper the better! Thanks for your help!

30k... that MIGHT get u a basic 5AT. BUT, if u are planning on getting a used one, you might be able to get more.

You should be able to get a used coupe for under 30k. The 6mt is found easier the the autos.

Well, if you really want to buy a used one with all options, you most probably will get an 03 model, which has had its share of problem; not big problems but just like how the interior's quality isnt quite up to par, and little things like how the controls on the steering wheel dont light up at night, im doubtful if you can get a 6MT with all options for under $30k, but doesn't hurt to try, but to tell you the truth get an 05 base model, the interior is ages better than the 03, and 04 model. You might only end up paying about 31-32K for an 05 one. So you have to make a decision: 03 with eveything (doubtfull) with interior problems or an 05 brand spanking new with an awesome interior. PM me if you need more help!!!!!

FYI...03-04 6MT's all came with sport package, which includes the brembos....I just picked up an 03 6MT Navi w/31.5k miles for $28.5 in TX....You should definitely be able to find one for under $30...deals are popping up all the time now....good luck

as for issues....there are a few...noisy/tough clutch, clutch going out at low miles, transmissions replaced, tire wear (can't rotate front to back), fuel economy, etc...just search and read the threads some more...

the 04+ has TPMS (tire press monitor sys), I hear that some 03's do (mine doesn't)
the 04+ has a different center console/armrest than the 03
and the 05, brembos not available, more HP, the sport pkg has 19" rims, and the interior is changed slightly....

may be more differences too i'm sure...

They probably wanted to cut down of costs, make more profit; its selling so well that people wont really care and buy them anyway

Thats true. But even though i love the g35 [buying one soon], i can't imagine getting rid of the p-car. Are you on rennlist.com by any chance? if there are lots of miles on your motor, i would defenitely consider a rebuild etc. the 968 is a relatively rare car, and the 50/50 weight dist. is great, just needs more power. Also, that car doesnt even look old yet...theres tons of helpful info/people that can help you with any motor problems on that board.

yeah, i wouldnt do the ls1 conversion either, just doesnt seem right to be putting ls1 into the german car...but it would be fast... i just wouldnt sell that car for a g. maybe find a way of keeping both? financing?

First off, I love the 968! Came real close to buying one, but its hard to find a good one! (looked for around 6 months...prob not nearly long enough, lol)

951kid, he's prob on 968.net mostly. No offense to rennlist, but I got the most 968 info/help from 968.net and pelicanparts.

As for the G, I bought my '03.5 G35 coupe 6MT (6mt includes the brembos, sports suspension) with Aero pkg, and Premium for $26.5k (around 23k miles). This was in MA, an each market wil vary, but you should have no prob finding a good used 6MT.

Good luck in your search, since I've driven both 968's and G35 coupe's, I can say you'll love driving the G!

yeah, 968.net is a good board as well, but i think thats because the rennlist 968 board doesnt have too many members compared to other areas [like the 911, 951, etc]. If you are still looking for a 968, there are quite a few up for sale up on rennlist now.

did you stop looking for a 968 after you got the g? or are you still considering one? and i agree, they are awesome cars, i just think they need a bit more power. you should see some of the 968 turbo conversions some guys are doing!

oh yeah, one last question, do you track you G? the racing section of this board is a little deserted...

yeah im at 968.net and 968forums.com not really too much on rennlist. Il have to think this decision through hard...time to go take a G for a test drive...Although its not going to handle or drive as good as the 968, it will be close enough and have all the comfort features and be new...so we will see..I will definitly update on my decision
