Downshifting to pass is my most common use for the manumatic. I also downshift to slow down when taking an off ramp.

for the head turns as well...occasionally do the downshifting for turns and such but dont honestly know what i'm doing when it comes to downshifting (always owned an auto). probably for a different forum but can someone explain all about the premise of downshifting and when to, and at what gear. also, i understand i am generally in 4th, but how come when i gun it in auto and want to switch to manual it never ever hits 5th on its own? also, could i downshift from 4th-3rd-2nd for passing and such?
thx in response.

I use the MM at the Drag Strip (have the TS flash w/ 7100 redline)

- getting on the freeway
- changing lanes / passing at speed (drops to fourth)
- coming down the big hill by my house I put it in 4th/3rd
- stop/go traffic on the freeway, coast along in a steady 1st/2nd

It might just be me but I regret getting an AT. I miss having the clutch under my foot. The only time I don't have it in MM when I'm on a date because don't drive as "spirited" and makes for a smoother ride for my passenger.

I use MM for all occasions except slowing, at least on a regular basis.

I actually use it to slow down sometimes - is that bad?

Like for example, I'll race up past some cars on the freeway just to get stuck behind some other ones in the distance. I drop it to 4th and it slows me down a bit without having to break. is that bad for the tranny?

No, it actually won't let you. I tried going from 5th - 3rd and it stopped dead at 4th.

What I miss though is being able to go from 6th to 4th and really feel it take off. Huge difference between my uncles 04 6spd and the 05 AT when it comes to downshifting.

dj cyntex and aszat01: manumatic mode actually lets you downshift two gears immediately (i.e. 4th to 2nd). try clicking down twice very quickly. it actually lets you do this from 5th-3rd, 4th-2nd, but very rarely from 3rd-1st unless at lower speeds. must be some kind of protection to keep the engine from overrevving.
