New TSB for Coupes

As if rock chips aren't bad enough for our cars.

Infiniti just posted a TSB warning us to be careful when using tire cleaners and shines. Supposedly the spray will stain the paint if it touches it.
WTF?! How pathetic is that?

As you probably already noticed, the wheels are spray painted and has very little
clearcoat (if at all). so im sure they will stain if you use harsh cleaners (like autowash
and some wheel cleaners).

I only use detailer spray or car shampoo.

I use a foam paint brush to put on my tire dressing for that very reason.

unfortunately i have been a victim of this. i sprayed some tire stuff on my tires (dont remember the brand right now). i let it sit for probably 5 mins, then had to take off. when i got back home, i noticed what looked like elmer's glue spread upwards from the edge of my front-right wheel well. it's probably 3 inches long or so, maybe 1/8" wide. i'm thinking the tire goop splattered off the tire and got onto the paint. it will have to be buffed out.

what are you talking about? they are implying that the wheel cleaner will stain the car's paint job, not the rims.

I don't know why they issued a TSB for this, as most all spray on tire dressings warn not to get any on your car's paint, becuase of discoloration. I stay away from them all together, as even if you are careful, it could splatter on your car, when you drive away, as it flings off the tire.

That's why I only use Meguiars Endurance. I used it for 7 years without any problems. FWIW, most of the discoloration issues I've heard with the spray stuff, is usually associated with lighter color cars.

Also FWIW, most of the spray stuff contains petroleum distillates, such that they would actually deteriorate your tires, much like Armor All. I found the only spray dressings that don't contain this crap, is the No-Touch brand dressings. I still don't like it tho, becuase it doesn't last very long.

Yes... Petroleum Distillates is a drying agent. It pulls moisture to the surface. When that moisture evaporates, it leaves the material even more dry/brittle then before you put the stuff on.

It's like rubbing alcohol. You wouldn't use that to moisturize your hands would you? (Same principle).

So don't use anything that contains that on any part of your car. (Like your dash or your tires).

Personally, I like Vinylex for the dash/vinyl/plastic/weather stripping, and Meguiars for the tires...

patrickwong, you sure do have it in for Infiniti's paint....dude....your car is black....it won't keep forever...accept it...don't blame Infiniti....my 03 Brilliant Silver is flawless (minus a few unavoidable rock chips on the front bumper that don't bother me)...and I use tire dressing once a week....and as someone posted above, I don't see why Infiniti would post a TSB about this...it's such common sense....they probably TSB'd it as a disclaimer to keep from having to re-paint cars of owners like patrickwong....pathetic indeed...

oh yeah...and far as the rock chip thread....I'm not sure what you're trying to prove, but again, if you considered changing your driving habits, you might not have as many....and I am smart..enough not to post a stupid thread crying about rock chips and what tire dressing can potentially do to paint....grow the f**k up man....

I just use car soap to clean my wheels and armor all for the tires.
