Escort 8500 X50 Question

It appears the Escort 8500 X50 has been out for about a year. What is the lifecycle for a typical Escort detector before a new model comes out?

I am holding out and hoping against hope that the next Escort model will have built in laser shifting. Any chance of this?

The 8500 was out for awhile before the x50 came out which was most likely due to POP support. I doubt they will include laser shifting since the laser shifters need to be physically near the front and rear of your car to be effective. Plus the cost would be as high as you buying them seperately.

I say just get X50 now. X50 is good enough as it is... saved my *** my countless times except one time when I neglected a small warning as automatic door since it only went up 1 bar and disappeared after a second or two but it was actually instant on signal from a mile ahead... arrrrrgggggg.

1. It's probably safe to disable X band altogether as it's mostly used by automatic doors
2. you can tell false positives by noticing areas where it always goes off, most likely it's some other source
3. make sure it's in auto mode for best filtering

Ya I bought one 4 months ago, and it has saved me countless times. Its a great detector, and Ive had no trouble with it. Seems to look pretty good on my windsheild to, in my opinion. I bought it from tweeter and had them special order the one with the red display, since the only stock the blue ones. My friend has a blue display one in his blue WRX, and it looks good. I think the red goes better with the G though.

After reading the reviews on it, I purchased an X50 this morning and am having it hard wired in my G35 Coupe. I'm replacing my S2, because I want something a little more sensitive.

Anyone have recommendations on where to have it installed? I've also purchased the SmartCord (the direct wire version).

Thumbs up

I got mine at Best Buy on sale (Big deal $289.00). It is far and away one of the best I have ever had. As for false readings, you will get to know in your regular drive, what is real and what is not.

BTW, I have one of the OLD passports that I used for MANY years untill it quit. I then got one out of a pawn shop and went another couple of years. I have NEVER had a better detector than that old one. I had fewer false readings than ANY other and that's INCLUDING the new 8500+50 that I have now. I would still be using one, but, it will not pick up Ka band and we have a lot of them here in South Texas. I purchased one of the fancy Escorts with the LCD screen and ran them side by side for a month. The new one was crap. I called ESCORT (still owned at that time be Cincinatti Microwave) and asked them what was the deal. They said: "we can't get that chip anymore". So I used that old Passport untill I bought my first 8500. That one crapped out after just two years. It started to quit on me (service needed on screen) just a year after I got it (just out of warentee). I could turn it off and give it a good whack and it would work fine untill I turned it off again. It finaly quit and I got the another one. It quit after a year also.

So stupid me bought another one (+50) and so far so good. The only reason I went for it again was how well it works (when it does work) and the V1 was just too much.

V1 is a good detector, but if you want the best price/performance, I believe the 8500 (x50) is it.
