Proper way to break in your G35 coupe
Proper way to break in your G35 coupe
I am waiting for my G35 coupe 6spd., and since this is my first new vehicle I am buying I don't know anything about breaking cars in. I would like to learn the proper ways to break in the G35 coupe 6spd. Please leave comments on your experience and your knowledge.
Thanks

Re: Proper way to break in your G35 coupe
gook,
My dealer told me there was no break in period for the coupe. He said to drive the car like you normally would in the beginning so it can 'get use to you' and 'mold to your everyday driving' whatever the heck that means. I'm sure its in our manuals, but I'm too lazy to read it. He also said that front plate is not needed in Texas if you have a 2 door, which I think is incorrect.

If the manual says 1200 miles then I would do 1200 miles for the break in. The sales person usually don't know the details. I have the 6MT DG and i am waiting til 12oo miles to have fun...

So basically you keep the RPM under 4000 until your odometer reaches 1200 miles?

The 5-speed auto-manual transmission probably "learns" your driving style to create a unique shift-point map just for YOU! So, take it to the track for the first 1200 miles so it'll get used to upshifting at 6K RPM :-)

The owner's manual says:
o Keep under 4000 rpms in all gears
o Don't use full throttle in any gear
o Don't drive for long stretches of time at the same speed or same RPMs
o Don't slam on the brakes
for the first 1200 miles. I know this may not be necessary, but I waited 3 months for the car, I think I can wait another week or 2 to be safe. I want the car to be as happy as possible to make me as happy as possible. I will likely drive to New Orleans this weekend coming, so I will surely burn the miles off on that trip. I'll try to vary my speeds on the highways. I should crack 1200 on the way back, so then I will have some FUN.
