How Serious is a Throwout Bearing issue?

I have singled my noise issue down to the throw out bearing, but dont know what the consequences are if I do nothing about it.

If you read my previous thread, I was experiencing a high pitched but not too loud "howl" from the clutch when shifting ~4k rpms or higher.

Should I ensure replacement since I am under warranty, or is this supposed to be "normal".

thanks

You just got your car! What are you doing above 4k rpm?

it's not normal at 2000 miles.

but a chattering throwout bearing is also harmless.

I would still bring the car in to the dealer. I think it should be covered under warranty, even though it's harmless you didnt pay for the sound!

Depending on how far you are from your dealer - I'd still go have it looked at. maybe they can tweak it and quiet it down...

I didn't read your previous thread, but does it rattle when clutched-out and
noise goes away when you clutch-in?

If not, it might not be your throwout bearing....throwout bearings don't go out
that quickly on a car unless a complete defect (which you may have already
posted).

nah, what happens is when the clutch is in while changing gears (more noticeable between 1-2 and 2-3) the noise occurs. to me its a not-loud high pitched whaling noise.

I am also hearing something high pitched during normal cruising, but I hope its just the gears.

Note: all of this is ofcourse with radio off and windows up that I hear all of this.

its good its not a single problem, but on the other hand, it sucks for us. I will find out tomorrow more about the issue and what will be done about it.

I had the exact same thing, its right when you shift 1-2nd around 3-4 rpm and 2nd to 3rd and it goes voonnnn, I hate it, when to service 3-4 times, wanted a new car, drove bout 2-3 brand new 05s with the techs, to show them mine makes the loudest sound, but they all tell me its normal, maybe it is. It is annoying tho, 03-04 dont have that sound, its some new system

I have an 03 6mt and had this same problem. I had to go to 2 dealerships for Infiniti to address this issue. Miller Infiniti in Van Nuys California knows about this problem. I already posted a thread about a TSB that should be coming out for the throw out bearing.

Here is the part # of the new throw out bearing:

From my experiences with a chattering throwout bearing, it will chatter when the clutch is up. When you depress the clutch pedal the noise should go away.

Is this what youre experiencing?
