hard time with 2nd gear

Does anybody else have a hard time with getting it into 2nd gear smoothly?

I've noticed i need to give it a lot more gas on any other car i've driven before in order to get it into second without jerking.. it hasnt become habit yet and i hope it doesnt because then i'm going to end up burning the clutch on my Miata if i'm so used to giving it a lot of gas to get into second smoothly.

I've noticed the exact same thing...but like you mentioned, it has become a habit for me personally so now i'm just used to it i suppose.

But yeah, you do need to give it a bit of gas to prevent the car from jerking.

I haven't had any problems with this. The RPM's do drop relatively quickly in the G compared to other, non-sport coupes. See if you can't get it into 2nd without letting the RPM's drop too far. It still requires letting the clutch out smoothly, but in a very quick manner

2nd Gear

I've also experienced problems with shifting into 2nd. A lot of times it feels like it will grind as if I didn't press the clutch all the way, but I do every time.

yeah i think that's what is usually referred to as notchiness in MT cars.. usually it comes later when the synchros start to show some wear but i feel the same thing in my G35 too.. the other temporary solution is to change to redline MT90

there is a steep change in gear ratio between 1st and 2nd. That is why it is hard to get into 2nd smoothly. However, you will get used to it after you spend more time with the car. I used to have hard time shifting to 2nd smoothly, but after a while, I can do it without even thinking or being careful about it.

If you wait a little longer and match revs while engaging 2nd gear, you can be smooth with the shift
