Curiosity flamed the cat. Be gentle please :)

before everyone decides to vent on me about me not using the little useful button called search to scroll through the threads, give this poor confused individual your 2 cents. Thanks
My friend owns a DG 5AT G35 but has been driving his brother's TSX 6MT lately and surprisingly is sufficient at driving the car. Manual has always been quite confusing to me (but fascinating) but besides my absolute lack of knowledge in the world of manual transmission, just a couple of quick questions.

True or False: The "center of gravity?? (no idea, my friend keeps insisiting on it) is different between the 04 and 05 G35. First of all, what the sweet jesus is center of gravity and what is it's effect on cars?

Question One: Since the gear ratios are different between 5AT and 6MT, will this product help the G35 by any chance to even the odds? http://www.performancenissanparts.co...oducts_id=1962

Question Two: The MM (Manumatic Mode) although is quite fun to use at times, isn't exactly 100% effective due to the minor lag found in shifting up or down. Will Gordon 10 Piece Hyper Grounding Kit help? (On a side note, I have bought and installed 7 out of the 10 wires. Just haven't gotten around to install the TCU and ECU wires along with another number 7 wire.)

Question Three: Does the TechnoSquare raise the rev the limit to 7100 from 6600? http://www.technosquareinc.com/g35.htm (Okay so yeah it does but what good is an increase in the rev limit?)

Question Four (Here comes the newbie question, get ready to flame ): Will these modifications level out a 5AT's maximum potential to a 6MT's? (assuming the manual driver is Godly and has insane shifting skills )

Just to let the readers know I have no intentions of leveling out with a 6MT G35 (Hell might as well trade mine in for a 6MT right? ) Just a curious individual introduced to a cold and confusing world of manly shifting and people boasting that they drive a manual instead of automatics [ on a side note, I am quite the lazy bastard the idea of constantly moving your right hand to keep your car moving is quite interesting, yet a waste of my muscles. Id rather be holding my girlfriend's hand than a cold and hard stick )
Any insight will be helpful. Thanks Guys

I haven't heard that the center of gravity differs for those years...but it's possible. Our cars have almost 50/50 weight distibution (50% front, 50% back...ok 52/48 or something close) and what this is important for is handling.

Not sure on this one...sounds like it's better for acceleration only

Wait, isn't this question 3? I don't own an AT, but I have hear that the grounding kits do actually help in AT shifting.

A raise of the rev limiter depends on how your car is setup. Basically you would look at a dyno chart of your car, and see where it is making power. If you are still making good power at 7000 rpm, but are getting cut off at 6600, well you would want to raise it to not "lose out". There are negatives to doing it of course.

I'd say it's a drivers race....because they aren't that much different in the first place....but against "insane shifting skills" you'd prob lose

Oh, and as far as 6MT goes...some people (like myself) love it, and hate the "disconnected" feeling of an AT, but some people prefer the AT...you'll just have to give it an honest attempt and see what you like

To explain Center of Gravity (CG), take a pencil and balance it on your finger. where did you put it? Your finger is right in the middle of the pencil, because that is where the effective mass center is for that object. When it comes to more complex shapes, it is tougher to calculate CG, but doable.

I have heard grounding gear will help make MM shifts much more instananeous.

The '05 6mt/5at with sport-tuned suspension package does sit lower than the 03/04, so in that sense yes is has a lower center of gravity.

And if you'd rather hold your g/f's hand than a stupid cold stick, man this is soooo Obviously stick is not for you, don't get it just because everyone else has it and it's so cool to have one. I got a 6MT because I truly enjoy driving it and I could not care less about holding a guy's hand (this comes from a girl btw). YMMV....

2 mods to consider. A " valve body upgrade " will give you a firmer faster shifts. Torque converter upgrade, will help eliminate that " lag " and will improve your launch. Both can improve your times from 7/10 to 1.2 sec. Stillen does VB upgrade, Edge racing does TQ upgrade. LevelTen does both with core exchange program.

When did they make the '05 models lower? I haven't read this anywhere and was just curious.

I think somewhere in this forum someone actually measured the ground clearance...I could be wrong though?

The fender gap is about 1/2 inch smaller, I always compare mine to others at meets, and rear spring rates on the '05 are MUCH higher than 03/04, there was a thread recently about this.

- COG. Yes, it is probably slightly different between the 2, but it's negligible.

1. Any mods will help, but with the design of an automatic, the drivetrain loss is inherent especially at high end where the torque converter runs out of steam.

3. I wouldn't believe it. Even if you can overcome the software limits at 6600, mechanically your engine will still break down. Think about it, Nissan had to strengthen the valve springs among other things to get the rev up to 7000rpm of the 05s. Its not just software.

4. slap in Forced induction and you can destroy any manual for that matter. Or NOS.Any insight will be helpful. Thanks Guys [/QUOTE]

Yea, I've seen the info regarding spring rates, but I've never compared the ride height. Not to nitpick, but fender gap really isn't a reliable method to compare ride height. Try measuring from the top of the wheel arch to the ground.

This is absolutely true, since the diameter of the 18" with the tire is 26" while that of the 19" is 26.1". Still, when you see them parked nose to nose, there is a visible difference.

My take:

1) No, I will not give you two cents. If everyone gave you 2 cents, you'd probably have a lot of money by now.

2) The center of gravity is just that - the center of gravity. It is the same between the '04 and '05 considering the ride height has not changed.

3) The final drive gear will change the shift points on your AT. The paragraph says it all. Don't know how well it works since I don't have an AT.

4) The grounding kit will not make your car faster. Supposedly it "smoothes" out the idle. Honestly don't know if this works or not. I have not seen any technical data to confirm this. I'm an engineer and engineers need data.

5) Provided there are additional mods besides the Technosquare ECU, one improvement I can think of - raising the rev limit will allow more "useable" area under the torque curve.

6) Presuming that you're talking about the '05 models, you would need more mods besides the ones you previously mentioned in order to get more BHP and performance out of the AT.

Now, i have owned 03 with 18s and now 05 with 19's, just by looking the 05 with 19's seem to be higher in the rear eventhough the difference might only be .1 inch but by eyes? it looked more close to an inch.
