1) I want to purchase the carpter or similar carpet that we have in the trunk, not the trunk mat but the actual carpet that lines the side of the car. Does anyone know where to get that or atleast something that will match its color, I dont need the original Infiniti carpet, just something that matches the color.

2) I have a motherboard and I wanted to directly drill it to a piece of wood, Do you guys think that will be ok or do you think that I should get the metal spacers that people put on the back of their motherboards when they connect it to there metal / aluminum PC cases? I never really saw the purpose of those except I guess for power surges, But if its functioning as a Carputer then It wont really get electrically shocked.

Any suggestions? Ill post pictures of my progress so far, Im doing everything before I get the screen b/c it hasnt been released yet. Thanks

Youd have to talk to Infiniti if you wanted an exact match but I got my carpet at Home Depot. It isnt an exact match but its good enough really

You should use motherboard standoffs when mounting a motherboard always. Theyre a few cents and should be used. You should also attempt to ground the mounting points. Motherboards are usually mounted to metal cases and that provides the ground but mounting to wood provides no ground

Also, I mounted my motherboard originally to wood and fiberglass (as seen in the link in my sig) but I later scrapped the whole thing and mounted the motherboard in an aluminum enclosure in the corner by the stock amp. I did this because without a metal case, the computer discharges a HUGE amount of RF and this intereferes with everything really. It absolutely ruined my FM reception and it greatly degraded my GPS signal.

 

I'm not an electrical engineer, but I'd certainly go with mounts. They will allow air flow for cooling and prevent components from hitting the wood or other surface and being directly vibrated to death.

I'd be real careful in drilling the printed circuit board, if it doesn't have holes already (if there are holes use them, don't drill more). You might ask for help if you have to drill so you don't crack the board. I've never done it, so don't ask me!
