Question G Sitting for days in a row, hurt it or no?

My G/Skyline is my "Fun Ride", and not my daily driver.

My question is: Does it hurt the car to sit in my garage for a week without being cranked or moved?

Should I take it out every other day to the grocery store and back just to keep fluids and parts from sitting too long?

What are ya'lls suggestions??

All .02 are welcome

Unless it will be sitting for months at a time I wouldn't worry about it. Remember, it sat on a boat for at least 30 days for the trip over here.

i think really short drives of less than a few miles hurts the car more. Esp in the winter when it's really cold.

Ok, great. Glad to hear that I'm not hurting him any.

So are our G's built over in Japan and not in the states @ some Nissan Plant?

??

Talking

Correct.

My '55 Chevy and my '97 Eclipse GSX both would sit for about a month sometimes (longer for the '55). Do yourself a favor and buy an Optima dry cell battery when your OEM one dies. You just can't beat the Optima in terms of letting the car sit for long periods and still having enough juice to crank the car over.

As usual, my last 4 vehicles have lost their OEM battery within 6 months of delivery. I changed every one of those out with an Optima and never had to replace the battery again and never ran into any more low-battery situations. Worth the money, especially if your car is prone to sitting and being driven only once a week.

My wife's Honda van has power everything and she rarely drives it on the highway. We had several low-battery situations due to this, until I just replaced it with an Optima. NO problems, even with the same power usage and the same limited highway driving.

It's truly the only automotive battery I will buy... ...and I know I'll only have to buy one.

Mine sits for 4 days at a time quite often. As mentioned above, I think you would only have problems if she sat for months on end. I let my Maxima sit, and covered, for about a year a few years back. I wish I hadn't now because one of the fuel injectors froze up when I decided to start driving it again.

Thanks Guys, and Thanks GT-Ron!

I'm taking him to work tomorrow and Friday and can't wait!

Pro's to it not being a daily driver is a long list, but it's so HARD not to jump in it and take off to work in the mornings.

I plan on taking it to work (60 miles round trip) every Friday. Other than that, I'll take him out for a "spin" to go out to eat with the wife and/or friends and other "little high speed trips", LOL

Thanks again for all the *tips* guys,

I have aftermarket wheels and tires and got "Flat Spots" in my tires from car sitting for 3 weeks in the cold.

The dealer thought I had a balance/alignment issue, but as I drove I guess the rubber worked itself back into shape.

Yes, there are big benefits to selective driving of your fun car. I sold my '97 GSX, in 2001, with only 23K miles on it and it was still nearly showroom perfect. Got $16,500 for it... ...but that was also with the $7K or so I put into it.

My G won't be that lucky (or neglected, depending on your POV), but it will still remain a relatively low milleage car. I live 2-3 miles from work and have been accumulating about 10 miles a day or so. But that will increase, as I'm certain I will suddenly find a lot more errands to run... ...and my son will probably want to go cruising Friday nights (he just turned 3 ).

But back on-topic: The Optima will eliminate the most likely problem you'll run into.

Just like RaleighNC said...flat spots on the tires. If your letting it sit for more than a week, at least move the car a foot or so to get rid of the flat spots. I know thats a common concern on motorcycles which weigh much less than a G and get flat spots.

My G is only a weekend car and occasionally during the week driver. It should not be a problem for your G if it sits unless it's sitting for long periods of time like a month or longer.

5 days at a time is fine. Don't worry, mon. I would drive it to work every day until you hit the break-in period though. That's what I did. No sense in delaying the fun!
