The handling is definitely better than the z's. I would assume the straight line acceleration to be about the same, giving the Z a slight edge because of weight.

How do you figure that the g35 coupe has better handling than the Z? Did you see something published, or have other data to back that claim up?

I have not yet had a chance to drive both, so I can't say for sure, but I have wondered which would handle better (although I think the difference would be slight either way).

My first guess would be that the Z handles better. The Z has a front sway bar, the g35c does not. The Z is also a bit lower than the g35c. Are there any other differences betweene the two with regards to handling? Are the suspension setups identical?

The main reason the G35 handles better is that it is longer, and has better stock tires than the Z. The G35c recorded a .92G skidpag mark during Road and Track Testing.
This is taken from that article.

"And how does the car tackle corners? In fine sports-car fashion, thank you very much. With the same basic suspension setup as the Z — multilink at both front and rear — the G35 Sport Coupe exhibits crisp turn-in response and minimal body roll. The power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system is precise and quick, while the Brembo brakes do an exceptional job of bringing the car to a halt. And thanks to its slightly longer wheelbase (112.2 in. to the Z's 104.3), the car feels more balanced and stable through corners than the Z, especially noticeable through quick left/right transitions where the Z's rear end can become a touch twitchy. In fact, the G35 recorded better handling numbers at the test track. It achieved 0.92g around the skidpad and danced through the slalom at 67.7 mph, besting the 350Z's 0.89g and 65.6 mph."

Also, at a recent autocrossing meet that my roomate was at, the times for the coupes were on average faster than those for the z's. The best time for the z was a full 3 seconds slower (72.6 to 75.3 seconds) than the g35c. Of course, a lot of this depends on the driver.

Interesting. Thanks for your perspective.

One question though - what does Road and Track mean when they say that the Z "rear end can become a touch twitchy"? And why is it that it behaves this way (length, weight, tires, etc.)

They mean that because of the Z's shorter wheelbase, when accelrating out of a turn, the back tires can cause the end to move in an unexpected fashion. It is probably the reason the z's times were slower in the slalom. Or it ould have just been the conditions for that day.

could it be that the .92 skidpad G was on 18s and the 87. skidpad was on 19s?

well if you're comparing the base Z against the 6mt the Z is faster due to the weight, longer wheelbases do not imply better handling actually smaller wheel bases are better, the higher wheelbase contributes to better high-speed stability
