replace transmission - only 25k miles!

i bought my 2004 coupe used at end of march, it had 17k miles at the time. almost immediately i noticed a slight grind when shifting into 5th gear, mostly when going up from 4th but also downshifting from 6th to pass on the highway. i took it in this morning to have them check out the grind, and just got a call saying they were replacing the transmission! i drive quite a bit, but almost all 8k miles ive put on the past couple months were florida highway miles (no hills, etc). anyone else had to replace somthing major so soon?

The transmissions on the 2003 and 2004 Gs were replaced at quite a tilt for a while there. Seems the syncros were the culprits, IIRC.

BTW Go Gators! I graduated from there in 1999.

No problem. If you do some searches, you should find quite a few posts on it. I don't recall hearing of any more troubles after that initial replacement run though. So when you get it fixed, it should stay that way.

My 6-speed self destructed at 18K miles. Lost syncros from 4th-5th and 5th-6th. All good since then though.

Thanks for the info everyone! A new transmission at 25k miles is cause for a lot of concern IMO, it's good to hear that it seems to be a specific problem that can be corrected.
