clearbra opinions

There are many on here considering getting the clearbra installed. I wanted to get some opinions of people that have it or have heard about it. Would your recommend it? Have or heard of any problems? Does it work, etc?

I drive a lot of highway miles and the front of my present car is beat to death but leather bra's look like crap so the clearbra sounds really nice if it works. I will be ordering a 6 spd coupe soon and might get a clearbra put on as soon as I get it.

I have researched the threads but I did not find much in the way of "I recommed it because..." or "dont get it becuase....", etc.

Thanks for your input!

Re: clearbra opinions

It'll get more hits in this forum:

I was considerind the clear bra but then I got a black car. I ended up not going with it for a few reasons.

One was like you I haden't heard much about it as far as long term was considered. They seem relativly new and not proven as to their effects.

Antoher was that I have black paint and with the clear bra I figured that any swirl marks or lack there of would show differently between the CB and the car. plus I figured if I took the Clear Bra off in a few years there would be fresh paint under there to contrast the paint that had been exposed to years of washing and waxing (wasn't really concerned with fading)

Finally It came down to price. For a good install that would cover the entire hood and have wrapped corners etc. Basically for an install that would eliminate all of my worries with black paint it would have cost probably around $850. Which in my opinion is way too much for something that I know way too little about. Plus I had been expecting to spend around 550 for a basic install and that money went towards satelite radio instead.

thats just my $.02 Had I got a different color it might have turned ut differently.

Re: clearbra opinions

I had a full-front end (front quarter panels, hood, front bumper, headlights, side mirrors and C-pillars) clear bra custom installed when I bought my black 6MT in December. Here are the pros & cons.

PROS: 1. obvious -- gives some serious protection for rock chips and other pesky hazards. This is my daily driver with lots of highway (read behind big trucks) driving. I had a black car before this one and the hood looked polka-dotted!! No such problem now.
2. I don't have a heart attack or nearly swerve off the road every time I spot a pebble tumbling towards my car on the road.

CONS: Especially with the dark paint, it has a definite "orange peel" appearance. This is obvious to anyone standing near the car and inspecting it. It is NOT apparent seeing the car from a distance, at night, or on the move.

Final thoughts: If this was a sunny days and weekends car, I probably would not get the clear bra. Because of my driving needs, it is a definite plus. In a couple years (when I am ready for the CONVERTIBLE G), I can peel it off and the car will have much more value than if it were all dinged up.
Good Luck!!

Re: clearbra opinions

I have it, recommend it and won't have another nice car without it. Have a 2002 Maxima and wish I had known about it when I bought that car. I have learned my lesson on it.

Bought a Nissan Frontier the other day and it already has a clearbra on it.

Pebbles, sand and gravel fly on the weekends and rain or shine.

Like the old ad said, Just Do It.

Re: clearbra opinions

I have the leather bra from Infiniti and love the look of it on the car. Actually, I think it would look even better on a black car.

It seems people either love or hate leather bras. If you don't like them, the clear bra sounds like your only alternative.

Re: clearbra opinions

Great input! My present car is black and I drive about 85 miles a day and the G will also be my everyday car. My present car looks like its been sand blasted.

Im in Maryland and Im not sure if there is anyone here that will do a custom install. Im pretty sure I could get the kit but I've heard you should get the custom with wrapped edges, etc.

I've also heard there are two kinds: 3M's 8 mil stuff and some 12 mil stuff by someone else. Anybody know about the difference?

Any bad experiences out there?

Re: clearbra opinions

I have 8mil on the car, 20 on the lights. 8mil is plenty of protection. I've heard some places are putting 40 on the lights. I suspect you could lose some clarity in light over time with that thickness. One drawback is the edges catching wax and such until you learn to stay away from the edge unless going with it when waxing. Wrapping the edges around corners remedies that issue but that's not possible in all areas i.e. door edges, behind splash guard area, etc. Seems 3M is the predominant supplier of the film. The adhesive is very good with nothing getting under the edges. Early films yellowed some on white but I understand the 3rd generation material is guaranteed not to yellow at all but that info's from the dealer. Regardless, mine came with a 4 year warranty so if replaced, would expect to get the improved product. Prices are still high though but will still be getting a full front. I recommend it. No more touch-up paint marks on the front end. ...dean

Re: clearbra opinions

ok, lots of replies already, but here's mine.

clear bra = GOOOOOOOD!

i have PI and from the front, you can't even see the bra (3M and its the whole front kit, headlights, mirrors, etc).

the proof was in the wife's driving... she did a little curb rub with the front bumper. clear bra protected the front lip, no problem. the side, (bra does not wrap around) is scratched clear down to the plastic (or whatever the front lip is made of).

anyway, it is really easy to clean, the headlights have the 12mm layer, and i can't see any change in light output or clarity. so far, its been worth the $695 (kit & labor) to have it done.
