I think I did....with an R...

On Southfield freeway in Detroit...in Dearborn (Ford Land)...crusing at about 60mph, a Jag S-Type R gunned pass me... I caught up, I passed him. He passed me again, I down shifted to 4th and gunned it.....pedal to the metal. Got him at 121 mph. I think he could have got me. A respectful car could have got me...damn but I had fun. -Kahuna

hahaha your lucky there were no cops or traffic there...... always infested when i drive past there

I've found that Lodge/Northwestern stretch by the southfield towers is a great place to top-out, also on 696W between Orchard Lake and 275......its a 5 mile long straight stretch with no on/off-ramps!

what are the specs on your G? where about do you live?
i work in Detroit/Dbn area and live in WBloomfield

Ya, those Jag S-type R's are fast but it's to bad that they only come with Autos.

It's a V8, and it runs 0-60 close to 5 seconds. Nice car.
On the other hand, it's a 70 thousand dollar car - I'd rather get an M5 for that money .

Not just any V8...it's supercharged too. It would pretty much be a slaughter, the G wouldn't have a chance.

I'd take an RS6 for that kind of dough tho.

heh me too, but keep in mind that this was in the Dearborn area, which means the guy works for Ford and has to buy a Ford, so that jag is either a company car or he's got the A-plan on it, meaning its like 20% off price and 0% interest
If i worked for Ford, i think that would be my model of choice!

Re: I think I did....with an R...

Oh man rich cocky guys with there nose so far up there ***'s from the Valley had one of those Jaggy's and came down to Sylmar to race and hang out. They thought they'd smoke everyone in the lot...LOL

My friend in his 4 banging WRX was like I'll race u for 60 bucks. The guys cacked out and then my friend was like come on u got a 5 sec 0 to 60 car vs my 4 banger WRX 2002 non STI model. "How about 20 bucks?" They were like ok I could use a extra 20 for gas. The lined up for 20 bucks and my friend in his 2002 WRX dusted the hell outta them... leaving them 20 bucks in the hole. They tried to accuse my friend of using NOS... hahaha... Oh man that was sad.. We told them if they wanted to go home with a busted window they better cough up the 20 bucks cuz they got smoked for days.. Must of been 4 to 6 car's... All my friend had was intake, exhaust and a few other stuff w/ a modefied/reprogrammed ECU from Vishnu or whatever u spell it at... Those guys were shoked that they got smoked by a 2002 WRX... They left after that race... Just kinda sad that a WRX w/ only 1500 bucks to 2000 bucks worth of mods can smoke one...lol

Re: I think I did....with an R...

Mani is absolutely correct...
The Jaguar S-Type R is a supercharged 400 HP V8 that'll keep up with E55's and BMW M5's easily - and will eat G35's for breakfast.

Chances are the only reason you caught him at 121 MPH is because the Jag's have a speed-limiter that doesn't allow them above 121 or so - not sure of the exact MPH for the S-Type, though.

Yup, if you see an "R" badge on a Jaguar, just back away slowly... you're no match, none whatsoever.

Re: I think I did....with an R...

I read in C&D when they tested the first 6SP AT S-type R the tranny would shift under the peak horsepower losing valuable performance times. The S-type R got like 5.5s in the 0-60 time, which is weird cuz the much heavier XJR gets the job done in 5s flat. So there could be a glitch in the shift maps of the first batch of S-type R’s.

Re: I think I did....with an R...

Isn't the XJR the one that is all-aluminum? How much heavier is it?

Re: I think I did....with an R...

The current 2003 XJR is very much all steel body and weighs around 4100 LBS. The new 2004 XJR is gonna be mostly made out of aluminum and weighs 3900 LBS., so I have read.

Re: I think I did....with an R...

I wouldnt call it sad....

I would say a car with a purpose like your buddies WRX is like a neon... fast little car... with some mods.

still not a G and definately not a R type jag.

dont get me wrong ... I'm not cutting WRX's or your buddies ... I'm just sayin ... speed isnt everything. IMO
