5AT mods, what's next? Advice needed
First I would like to say that this site has helped me a lot in making decisions on what mods to get, and overall extremely helpful in learning more about this car.
Next, what is next for me as far as NA mods? I have pretty much all the common mods one can have (correct me if I am missing any basic performance mods). I have the following mods in the order listed below: Ztube + JWT PC MD 3/8" spacer Injen SES Exhaust GroundingGear Helix Test Pipes TopSpeed Pro-1 Headers What other mods would benefit performance? U/R Crank Pulley? TechnoSquare Reflsh? Are any other mods worth the price for the gains they will produce going NA? Any comments or suggestions would be great, Thanks. |
Injen exhaust has been known to spit out fiberglass. You might want to consider another as I'm not sure it's been addressed satisfactorily from the manufacturer. Def go for the 10-wire grounding gear with your AT. Crank pulley does help with torque and response but you will open a can of worms discussing it. I have one but do a search on all that's been talked about. For the intake you may want to just get the K&N filter with the stock intake or maybe the Stillen paticularly if you're in a warm climate. I have the PC but will probably swap back to the stock intake and K&N for summer.
You don't say what year G you have. From what I've read gains for the plenum spacer on 05s has been inconclusive although I think there was a big dyno day coming up where some 05s were to be tested. Search. Technosquare thing seems to be hit and miss IMO and a pain to get done. Don't know enough about the other mods you mentioned but hi-flo cats seem to be a good addition as well. Don't forget suspension. Sway bars, tires, springs, etc will help you put the power to the ground. |
I haven't had many problems with my Injen exhaust as of yet.
I am also pleased with the Ztube + JWT PC, and don't see the need to replace that either. The one thing I am considering replacing is the MD 3/8" spacer with a Crawford plenum. Does anyone think the gains from this would be worth the replacement? My car is a 2004.5 G35C btw. |
Nope, best mod bang for buck is FI

I heard that the new kinetix ssv intake manifold provides almost ~30rwhp on N/A cars. But its alot of money.
|
I'd suggest K&N filter to go along with your intake, and synthetic oil for engine and rear gears.

I am trying to avoid going FI for now, but sooner or later it's going to happen. |
u actually lose power (low end) on the kinetix ssv. gains are only noticable on higher rpms. have u considered valvebody or torque converter with trans cooler.

I have not considered that, I will do a quick search to check out the benefits. Thanks for the suggestion. |
The UR Crank Pulley is a good mod that isn't very expensive. I haven't had a dyno, but there appears to be quicker acceleration and pull throughout the rpm range. I'm also pleased with the 3/8" plenum spacer.

I can not believe no one has said to go with the 350EVO 3.9 final drive gearing. DO not do the ECU reflash until you are done modding. The reflash should be your last mod.
