Just Installed Sirrius
Just Put Sat Radio In my Coupe and It was really Easy!! Took no more than a half hour. I was Prewired so it links right up to the deck and the antenna fits prefectly on the rear deck between the speaker and brakelight. Really easy install for anyone that is prewired. If you want Sat radio and are prewired I Highly reccomend it!
Re: Just Installed Sirrius
for the SAT... how good is the quality of music? like is it radio type which is 64 kbps or is it cd quality which is between 128-192 kbps.... also, would you take the time and buy one and install it in a leased car if you had the choice? is it all that great or should I just stick with my CD's.?

Re: Just Installed Sirrius
The Quality is as good if not better than a CD. There are plenty of stations to choose from. I was sick of listenening to the god forsaken radio and hearing nothing but commericials and bad music. Plus the names of the songs and the artists appear on the screen if you want to know who your listening to so thats pretty cool too. overall I'd say im pretty satisfied..

There's absolutely no way it can be better than CD, they're taking a CD and compressing for transmission, even if they used lossless compression (which they don't, I can guarantee you) it still wouldn't sound better than the original CD, that's just impossible.
I just sampled the online "sample" streams, and the 32kbps WMA they're streaming sounds absolutely horrible, it's much much worse than anything I've heard on the radio, so I hope that's not representative of the quality of the actual satellite feeds.
I couldn't find any technical information available on their satellite feed, but I'm guessing it's below 128kbs per station in which case I don't see any way it could approach CD quality. Then again I'm not one of those people who thinks 192kbps MP3 approaches CD quality either (bump it up to 320k and it will usually be transparent). Even so, I guess it's likely to sound better than FM radio, which is severely lacking in dynamics. I would consider getting one of these sat radios except that the genre's I listen to don't appear to be adequately represented (my tastes are generally pretty far from mainstream).

Re: Just Installed Sirrius
I have XM (in my oct built G) and the sound quality is as good as cd. Plus by pressing the RPT button, you can change channel display, Channel name, Artist, song.
Plus I used a Antenna Specialists #XM20/CP "very" low profile antenna and installed it in/under the 3ed brake light housing. No visible antenna!!!

Re: Just Installed Sirrius
Let me get this straight. My 6MT is prewired for sat. If I install XM, I will be able to see the artist name and song on my OEM Bose head unit? If so, now I really want it. Does it do this with Sirrius too?
Re: Just Installed Sirrius
yes, correct, i recommend Sirius though because they do not have any commercials, and they have a little better quality music stations.
The audio is near-cd quality from what i've heard. Its equivalent to 128kb encoded mp3's.

Re: Just Installed Sirrius
Please correct me if I'm wrong but, you listened to the sample on your PC, right? It will sound different as opposed to listening to it on your Bose system in your sedan.
I will guarantee you Mr. Kohn, that infact SAT radio does have the sound quality of a CD. It's digital satelites workin out there..........come on man................technology is a wonderful thing...............................MASTERSR6

Re: Just Installed Sirrius
Ahhhhh Crap! My tuner took a crap on me last night. For some reason it doesn't pick up the fact that I have Sat Radio installed. So before I reccomend it let's see how well Infiniti parts usa is with returns.

Sorry, 128kb encoded mp3 is not near-cd quality IMHO, there are noticeable artifacts. Now maybe these artifacts aren't too terribly noticeable in a car audio system, where you have a less than optimal setup and audible road noise, and your attention is split between driving and listening to the music. But if you were to listen to the same music on a nice home stereo setup, it wouldn't be hard to hear the artifacts.

I can assure you the sound fidelity of my PC ($600 headphone/amp combo hooked up to a 24/192 prosumer soundcard) is far better than the crappy bose system in my sedan. And digital doesn't always mean better, especially when lossy compression is involved and they push the compression too far. DirecTV is a perfect example. on my bigscreen HDTV digital satellite looks pretty bad because of all the compression artifacts.

Re: Just Installed Sirrius
Ok nevermind it works. I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and it works fine. Wierd.
Oh yeah as far as the sound quality debate is concerned it sounds a hell of a lot better than the radio and thats all that is important to me.
