Valentine One hardwire??
Valentine One hardwire??
Hey guys, just picked up my 6speed coupe yesterday! It is such a great car! The reason i am posting is to ask if anyone has detailed instructions on how to hardwire a Valentine One into the car? Thanks guys!!
Re: Valentine One hardwire??
I'm in the same position as you are, For the moment i have it not hardwired, but as soon as there is a relatively warm day here in MD, i'll be looking through the car to hardwire it. It looks like you should be able to run a wire from the fuse-box with no problems.
I don't think it should be that hard...I did 2 diferent cars before. My only problem is that i have not found a good spot for the remote display yet.
As soon as i figure all this out, i'll let you know, you may do the same

Just wondering where you guys have the unit mounted on the car. When I get mine, I am wondering where the best place to put it is. I hate suctioning to the window.

Re: Valentine One hardwire??
The window is the best place though. U get best performance from the RD if it is up high looking through the class. For the moment it is over my head at the very top of the window(this is for easy access). One good thing is that if you mount the RD that way(that high) it is invisible from the outside because if tint strip. However, that same tint strip probably degrades performance of RD.
When i redo it, i will mount on the right side over the rearview mirror or next to it(depending on the fit) and little lower so that tint doesn't block the MW path.. This way it is out of my view and isn't on the way of the visor. With remote display i don't need to see the radar. Also you can COVER it by the pass visor if you do get pulled over.
I had it monted like that on the Audi and liked it. I just need to pick a sport for remote display unit.

What state are you in? I am in California and although they are not technically illegal, if a cop sees you with one ... time for a ticket, no chance to talk out of it. Usually I just pull it off real quick and stash it under the seat (had to do it twice, didn't get a ticket either time but neither were for speeding). However, I am hoping it will work ok with a dash mount (velcro or something) because it leaves big marks on the window everytime.

Re: Valentine One hardwire??
I'm in Maryland. It's the same here. They are legal, but you don't want a cop to see it when he pulls you over. If you mount it behind the rearview mirror on the passenger side, and use remote display, the V1 is practicaly invisible from the outside. From the left it is covered by the mirror, from behind it is dark, and covered by the mirror and/or pass visor, from the front it is covered by the tint. So unless the cop gets inside the car or really bends down to look, he won't see it. I've been pulled over with radar still in place and got out of a ticket.
It is still easy to take it off(as i do when park in not so good places) without taking the mounts off, so i don't really care about the marks as they are in such a high spot and over the tint that cops will not see it.

have mine just above the dash. I paid a car stereo shop $25 for the wiring job. See the photo gallery with the dash kit.
BTW - Only radar jammers are illegal in California and cops will not write you up for having a detector (unless you broke some other law).

Re: Valentine One hardwire??
Hey guys. Just checking out the 'Coupe' posts. In my G35s, I have the V-1 mounted just to the right of the mirror with the V-1 just below the tint band on a mount that I made. I got tired of the suction cups giving way every once and a while. My original mount was just a strip of 1" sheet metal bent into a ' v '. Worked well but vibrated more than I liked.
I recently fabricated a new V-1 mount from thicker sheet steel. I made it in 2 pieces to incorporate a more 'stylized' look to the angles and brazed them together, heat tempering the mount in the process. A depression is ground out to 'snick' into the V-1 visor plate. This makes for a very rigid permanent mount for the Valentine which no longer moves around at all.
The best thing about the mount is that the position is locked and it takes only one hand to mount/dismount the V-1 in 2 or 3 seconds including the power cord!
This should work in your coupes as well.

Tell you what;
I'll make another one when I have time, see how long it takes me, PM you back and see what it's worth to you.
Keep in mind, I'm a psychotherapist and I don't come cheap. Also, I have a family to support, time to devote to them, blah, blah, blah. Good thing for you this is just a hobbie for me.
