05 Manumatic Question

Let me start off by saying I love the new 05 Manual AT. After the car warms up, i pop it over to MM and drive it like that most of the time. The downshift rev is a nice touch. But onto my question....

I recently started driving in MM by letting off the gas when i upshift. By doing so, it feels more like a true manual with clutch shift, but also feels like there is more snap after the new gear engages. I want to know if, when upshifting, there is any advantage/disadvantage to keeping your foot floored on the gas, or ease off the gas while you tap ahead to the next gear?

Can i expect a faster shift with my foot continuously on the throttle?

Would this same method apply to downshifting too?

i've only had the car for about a month, so i'm still trying to learn what she can do

Well for me on my '04 AT, I find that the car has a real hard time when I let off the gas while "shifting" in MM, a lot of times it wont shift when I do that. Your prolly better off keep the gas on for speed and longevity of your tranny.

Hmmm . . . I tend to agree with the 'gas on', with regard to the long term AT tranny reliability.

Either/or should be fine. You need to stay on the gas, however, for fastest acceleration.

Unlike a true manual, where the clutch would disengage the drivetrain from the engine between shifts, the manumatic will not disengage when you let off the gas. So, the car will slow as the engine revs drop. For the fastest performance, stay on the gas when shifting the auto in manual mode.

I wouldn't worry about longevity under either shifting scheme. The torque converter will handle just about any shift you throw at it. This is the same transmission found in the Q45 (4.5 liter V-8) so it's very strong.
