Who needs Bumper Plugs?
I have been asked what bumper plugs I used to cover the wholes created by the registration plate. Body-Tite! part number 45470 (Nissan & Toyota). It is also a Dorman 701-422 - Whatever that means.
Good luck.

Re: Who needs Bumper Plugs?
My dealer gave me the bumper plug when I bought the car! Much easier than custom bodywork.

Re: Who needs Bumper Plugs?
He's referring to the insert located in the middle of the front bumper. I am referring to the actual holes drilled by the dealer to install the front plate.

Fill the holes the dealer drilled:

They work great. I bought a set for my LR coupe and they look SO much better.
Here is their color match up page:

Re: Who needs Bumper Plugs?
For all of you guys doing custom body work to fill the hole, just remember that you NEED that hole if you ever get your car towed. That's where the tow eye gets screwed into (if my salesman was correct.)
So go out and get the bumper plug for your dealer and save yourself a HARSH tow home!

I plan to buy a bolt that screws into the tow hook receptle and drill a hole into the top of the bolt. Use a nut on the bolt to adjust the clearance of the license plate. Then rig a metal strip or plate that fits the plastic license plate holder to the mounting bolt. Saves drilling holes into your front bumper cover. I'll post pics when I get it done.
Re: Who needs Bumper Plugs?
Balzac72...............No one is doing custom body work to fill the hole covering the tow hook. The bumper plugs are NOT for that hole (that would be a bumper plug not bumper plugs...LOL). The bumper plugs or for the holes that the dealer drilled into our front bumpers to install a front license plate.
Re: Who needs Bumper Plugs?
BillR........I contacted bumperplugs.com a while back and they told me that there plugs won't work on my car. Their plugs are designed for a 1/4" hole and the holes drilled into our bumpers are 3/8".
You said you installed some plugs from bumperplugs.com on your coupe?? Were your holes 3/8"?? Can you please post or email me some pics of the plugs??

Re: Who needs Bumper Plugs?
There are no holes drilled by Infiiniti - any holes drilled were done by your dealer, so there will be NO consistency in the size of the holes.
Just remember if you are ordering your car, tell them to not drill those holes, I was lucky enough to get to my car before they did :-)

Gotcha, I had no idea. I'm in NY where we need front and back plates, so this isn't something I'll be doing anyway!

Re: Who needs Bumper Plugs?
rxkeven.......I never said they were drilled by Infiniti. If you read my earlier post, you will see that I said they were drilled by the dealer. And yes there should be some consistency in the size of the holes drilled by the dealer. The front license plate kit that came from Infiniti had instructions that said to drill 2 holes using a .39 inch (10mm) drill bit. And then insert the grommets into the holes. The owners manual says the same thing.
I didn't order my car. I bought it in Texas where they require front plates. I live in Louisiana and don't need a front plate so I'm looking for plugs to fill in the 2 3/8 inch (10mm) holes in my front bumper.

BillR:
did you take out the plastic white inserts that the license screws tap into, or are the plugs going right into those inserts? If you did take out the inserts, how did you do that? Did you cut them off, or is there a way to get those out without damaging them so that they can be re-inserted into the bumper in case of an emergency (fixing ticket)?
also, how did you paint them? Did you use touch up paint?
Thank you. They do look a lot better than the steel screws I'm using on my car....
