Sorry, but for you to keep up with a 6 speed T/A, expecially the '02, the guy driving had to be a complete dinglenut. They may be rated at 325 hp, but bone stock LS1's were running high 12's to low 13's, especially the '02's, which came with some ls6 goodies, like the intake and heads. The ls1 is suprisingly a stronger motor in the higher RPM's, and 3rd gear for those cars (highway racing) just plain rips! I know b/c I used to have an LT1 (the motor in the 93-97 camaro), and the ls1 would just pull on me, and every other car once 3rd gear hit. Also, bone stock, LS1's were putting down atleast 320 RWHP. I didn't beleive it untill I saw it for my own eyes at a dyno day when I used to own and F-body. Its just very hard to beleive you pulled on him, considering that this car is not as fast as my LT1 was, and my old LT1 would get destroyed by LS1's.

And for those that would want to buy a trans am over a G, sell your car immediately...you don't deserve her and she doesn't deserve having to sit next to your trailer daily.

Hey, I happen to like torque.........and my prefabricated home, thank you very much. Actually, I'm only partially kidding. An 02 WS-6 was in the cards for me before my G. Interior was essentially the only thing that turned me off.

Definitly not, period. Bad dyno or uncorrected numbers or auto's running the dyno in 2nd or 3rd

It's beliveable about the kill. I'm a newb at shifting and I'm sure that a slightly modded Geo Metro could take me at any moment. I can miss 5th like a champ and downshifting is like waiting on paint to dry. I'll get it some day though

Bad dyno? What makes you say that? The numbers were SAE corrected, and the dyno was definately not off. Take a trip over to ls1.com and see for yourself. Those engines were severely underrated, which is why I say that it is possible that the original poster actually won, but highly unlikely.

I say that because from the factory they were rated at 305 FWHP (non ram air/WS6). I went over to ls1tech.com and looking through it seems that average is around the flywheel rating. I stand corrected

Hell GM always "under-does" things...but I would have never thought they'd screw that up. I'm surprised!

No problem, just trying to shed some light to the ill-informed. Assuming an average of 305 RWHP, even the worst driver knows how to push the pedal to the floor and go. See why its hard to beleive, knowing how much power they actually put down? Actually, at a dyno day, a couple corvette owners left dissapointed because the Trans Am's and Z28's were putting down more or less the same RWHP as they were.

Also, they say that Chevrolet underrates the power of that engine in the Camaro/Trans-Ams because they don't want to take any lustre away from the Corvette by having the 2 cars be soo close in power output.

The guy driving the WS6 had to have been an absolutely terrible driver.

The only clear advantage that we have on that car in a straight line race is that ours is geared a lot lower.

3 of my friends have F-Body's, 1 is modded to hell.... and I wouldn't even think of racing any of them in my G. When I'm in their cars and they step on the gas, that speedometer goes up a hell of a lot faster than it does in my G.

it's all cool, i knew there would be some people not believing this, but keep in mind this is the highway, off the line I guarentee the guy would've destroyed me. Im not going to even bring up my other story of an E46 M3 i played with one night No one would even believe me. anyways, If I can keep up with a modded E46 M3, that already runs low 13s stock, why cant I play with a WS6..I'll tell you this, at highway speeds, for ME at least, 3rd gear and up, the car can keep up with alot of FAST cars...i'll be running against my friend's chipped, 6spd B5 S4 in a couple of weeks, Ill try and get that on the camera and post up. I have a feeling ill take him on a 3rd gear rolling start...who knows

I don't think you understand the 3rd gear or the power up top on the LS1's. 3rd gear is the gear where the LS1 shines, and pretty much blows most cars away.

I can't speak for my g35s top end but I've been in my friend's modded SS Camaros as well as a 12sec TA before and if you want to talk about top end, talk about a Supra TT. It's a safe bet that thing will take down most cars from a roll...esp. since most TTs you see out there will probably be at least BPU...
My car was the only car they didn't want to run on the highway...so I just stayed put and watched the 5.0s, Camaros and TA go at it...

On the street, anything can happen so I wouldn't doubt the story

I'll definitely take your word for it, but I SHINED last night Anyways, the car is fast no doubt about it, but if the car runs stock low 13's....then at top end, SURE I can keep up or even pull, the only thing that keeps our damn cars from running low 13's is our 1&2nd gears suck. I was down at Englishtown not that long ago and I was up against an old school 50s or 60s vette. Off the line he killed me, and had 1 1/2 cars in front of me, but the rest of the way I was right there with him, he did NOT pull on me anymore and he ran a 13.1 in 101 degree weather. My point that I'm trying to make is that from a roll at around 60mph, why can't I hang with a low 13 second car, that's when I shine. I bet a few of the bolt on modded Zs would've pulled hard on that guy. Also remember, he had another passenger, I didnt.

Oh yeah, also, we started our pull from third gear, so there was no shifting involved, I got the quick jump, but he didnt gain on me, he just stayed back, right where I can see him in my side view mirror.

At highway speeds, that huge engine in the Trans Am should kill you.

Here's a pic and some info about that car:

http://members.aol.com/DavzTA/

They are capable of 0-60 in about 4.9 and quarter mile times of about 13.4-13.6 in stock form with a good driver.

Here's an interesting site with some 0-60 and quarter mile times of many different cars(probably about 500+ cars):
