The M3 SMG also has a "launch-control" mode that brings the revs much higher (~5000 RPM) as it releases the clutch in first gear...otherwise no matter how far you push down the gas pedal it limits the revs to ~2000 RPM when it lets out the clutch. With launch-control the SMG can get some nice 60' times on sticky tires...like a two-step rev-limiter.
I think my friend had to load a European flash to get it to do it and then you have to hit a few buttons and the gas pedal in the right order to engage LC mode: I think you put the SMG in the fastest mode (6, I think), shut off traction control and go into sport mode (forget if that's one or two buttons), then you pull it into downshift and hit the gas (that I remember); the revs climb to 5k and when you let go of the shifter it launches like a bat out of hell.
Get your friend in the SMG to try it...but hope nothing breaks!
