probably another two years. Its only one year old so that won't be bad. I usually go through cars about every 8 months so I'm doing pretty good for keeping it this long.

Good luck with BMW. I read posts here were G35 owners are upset because of a rattle or two that they can't repair. Well, I owned a $58K M3 for two years. I bought it in 2002.

First off The Harman Kardon stereo system not only was about the worst stereo system I ever heard, it rattled constantly. It only took four trips to the dealer to get the speakers from rattling.

After about 2500 miles I started to hear weird noises from the engine when I accelerated hard. Ahole at the dealership told me that the sound I heard was normal and that all M3s made that sound. Well the engine blew in another 600 miles. A little over 3K miles and the engine blew, and I never tracked the car. The replacement engine had no where near the power of my original engine, but at least it didn't blow again.

After a year and a half the paint started to peel off my OEM wheels. The Service Manager blamed me and refused to repair it under warranty. He claimed that I must have used some caustic cleaner that made the paint peel. It only took about three weeks and countless escalations to get BMW to pay for the repair.

I could go on but I think you get the picture. Thank God that BMW has a great marketing department because I was able to get some sucker to buy it for $45K. BTW I shared all of the maintenance reccords with the new owner, and he was impressed that the engine had the 6 yr/100K warranty.

well, i've got just under 4.5 years until i'm all square with the bank...so at least that long. after that i guess it depends, if i still love the car, i'll keep it for a few more years, if i'm doing well, i might just keep it as my weekender or trade up.

I think the G has a timeless design to it, so who knows..hopfully I can keep mine real long. Tired of trading cars (big loss).

Same here and I agree:

1) Assuming a financial disaster doesn't throw me and my family into the street, I'll trade the G35 in about four years if there's something exciting out there. I waste a lot of d[a]mned money on cars. People make fun of me, but what're you gonna do?
2) I've been in love with the SR20DE engine in the G20 since 1991, when I rolled a white a Sentra SE-R off a local Nissan dealer lot. Kept that car for 10 years with exactly two repairs (replaced CV boots and rebuilt starter solenoid). The engine, transmission and clutch are bulletproof. And on the original SR20DE, revving that little thing to its 7800 rpm fuel cutoff was a blast. (Sadly, Nissan dropped the redline to 6900 on my wife's G20, and the added 400 pounds makes it slow as a stone in summer. But like a Miata, it's just a joy to drive.)
