Guys, the reason why you can have your gas light come on, and then if you start driving it easy, you will watch the gas meter climb back up. THe cars copmuter is constantly figuring out what kind of MPG you're getting and uses that to formulate how far your distance is till empty. So if your driving it hard, you get worse MPG and the car will show a lower reading on the gas meter, but if you start to drive it easy, your MPG improves as well as the distance to empty, the meter goes back up. Figured this out, 1. because of my navy, which shows me my distance till empty. 2. I was getting on the highway and driving real aggressive, (coming from costa mesa, ca) redlining it all the way up the freeway onramp, up through 4th or 5th gear, all of a sudden my gas light comes on, i go dam, ok time to get gas, so i start to drive easy, my distance to empty foes from 20 miles, to 70 miles. Lol, made it all the way to Santa Clarita which was my destination...
I thought this could be what happened, but I wasnt positive. It made sense, but since I dont have nav, I couldnt be sure. Thanks a lot.

>>Wilson1: I didnt know that, can anyone else confirm this?

That is definitely not the cause in my situation. The nav will show asteriks when this happens even though I've got at least 1/4 tank in the car.

My car will start doing that around after I burn off around 14 Gallons. The Navi's dist to empty will hit 0 miles around 16 gallons burned. I just keep the trip od on each tank and keep any eye on the miliage. I don't think its a big deal to fill up after every 16 G. It also depends if you had the car parked on even a slight incline, it will take a bit for the gage to adjust.

I filled it up today with the gauge reading just below 1/4, and it only took 13.2 gallons. 1/4 tank should be 5 gallons, so if the guage was on E last night, how did I only take 13.2 gallons? (i topped it off all the way)
True enough, our F/gauges are not so accurate.....They read very optimisticly, meaning when showing empty, the tank still has 5 or 6 gallons left.

Other gauges are totally wacked and show a reading that has nothing to do with the fuel in the tank.

Check your mileage instead of the gauge, and know how far you can travel on a tank for a better estimate of what's left.

I think the same guy that thought up the E/O dipstick also had something to do with the fuel gauge....

Talk to your dealer. He may be willing to install a new sensor and float for you.

Hahaha, probably. At least I'm not the only one that noticed it was a pain in the ***. Seriously, what were they thinking. I was checking my oil with a friend and he noticed and said something like "your dipstick is the most f***ed up thing I have ever seen". haha
