System Upgrade Info
Hey Guys,
I've recieved alot of valuable info from many members in this forum and would like to offer something back.
Current project is an 05 G-35 Coupe (Laser Red). Current system upgrade includes: Avic D1 w/DD conversion, Dual Jl 8w7, Dual Jl Audio Amps, Jl ZR Components, Compustar 900 MHZ remote starter/Alarm, Escort SR7 Radar w/laser diffusion.
If this sounds like a lot of work, you're right.. As I go I'll show different points in the system over time (as you can guess, it's not a 1 day job).
Anyhow I'm going to start with running wires. There's been alot of information on running wires through the firewall. Anyone who owns this car is well aware of the single large gromment behind the battery compartment.
Things to note, this grommet is large, it houses all of the wires from the engine compartment that enter the car. Other notes, it is a sealed harness (rubberized) which sit right under the window. Literally water from the window rolls right down the side of this grommet. This can be easilly verified by pouring water on the window and watching it roll right past the grommet. It is possible to run your new wires through it but take heed seal the connections or else water will roll through the grommet into you'r car's interior.
Instead after further inspection there is a small rubber knockout located by the bcm of the passenger side.

One thing to note the hole is pretty small (just big enough for a 4 awg). I removed the BCM, (2 bolts located on the right). And pulled it out of the way. At this point I went it with a unibit widened the hole and taaadaa.... A hole big enough to accommodate anything you want.
Next I removed the plastic from the wheel jam...

Located in this well are brake lines which shoot through a grommet towards the top of the wheel and into the engine compartment under the hood. The nice part is the grommet is above the existing hole, the bad part the grommet is tight...
<img src="https://g35driver.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=19650&stc=1">
After playing with the existing grommet for some time, all the wires will fit through. I next use 3m sealant to seal all existing holes around the wires. (just to make sure no water appears)
<img src="https://g35driver.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=19651&stc=1">
Loom is now applied to wires (makes it real clean and pretty for the truly obsessive). And reinstall the tire well. I next put everything together and installed all needed wires under the hood.
<img src="https://g35driver.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=19652&stc=1">
And bing...bang....boom... All of my wires are installed for the underhood.. All the wires of the stereo, remote starter, alarm, and radar are ready to go....
I will post follow ups on the installation as time goes by.. I hope this gives back a little bit to the board..
