I got in an accident, my car was parked, and I'm filing a claim with his ins. co. There hasn't been an estimate yet, but of the damage sustained, the rear axle looks bent. I've heard about filing a diminished value claim as well. Does anybody know when I should file this, and any tips on dealing with insurance comps' as well will be greatly appriciated! Thanks

For me, I just contact my insurance agent (safeco) and tell him to take care of it. He handles it for me. I've never been in an accident but have had a couple of claims on windshields and a hit and run (someone hit my old car while I was in the office...no note).
Not sure about those 1800 places like Geico and such. I would imagine you would just need to tell your insurance company that some beotch hit your car and that you want to them to give you advice and/or handle the incident and diminished value.
Bummer about your car. Good luck.

When I got hit my agent told me that they rarely pay dimished value (Progressive). She said that to get diminished value paid I had to prove that the value was reduced, through an independant apprasal.
Lucky for me though, the body shop did such substandard work that it should be easy to prove....
