Unhappy Damage Assessment

Alright, I'm stupid. So I just got a parking ticket. That makes me feel stupid, not so much mad, just stupid. So I drive away and then I go to park it at another meter somewhere else. I screw up the parallel parking job. (I still can't parallel park very well in the G as you will see in a minute, but I'm fine with other cars.) I screw up, and go to pull out. Somehow I wind up scratching the freaking car up against some SUV's bumper. I hate the city sometimes. This is one of those times. It messed me up pretty good, but the other guy didn't care about the damage. Mine is not good though. The scratches unfortunately are a few centimeters deep.

I was wondering how much you think this might cost to fix? Also, should I just buy a whole new panel, and how much is that? Last but not least, to my knowledge there is no aftermarket replacement for that panel, but if there is one, someone please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

You DEFINITELY do not need to replace the panel. If it's really deep your going to have to get it repainted which should run you about 200-300...No more than that.
From the looks of it I don't even think they'd have to do any bondo work...just a repaint.

No, it's definitely deep enough to notice it. The picture from my camera phone doesn't show it too well. I may try to get a better picture later. I think it might actually be about half an inch deep. I would ideally like to get it pulled back out, but I'm afraid that may not be possible. I'm also not too thrilled about bondoing that part of the car. What is everyone's opinion on using bondo there? It just doesn't seem as if it would be the same to me.

I actually damaged my coupe in a similar fashion about a month ago. I made the bonehead move of backing my Infiniti into my other car. It dented and scratched the rear wheel well a lot like yours. The dent on my car was smaller, but deeper. They had to undent and repaint the quarter panel and all that. Total was $910. But I brought it to what is considered the best body shop in the Detroit Area, Autometrics. I probably paid a lot more than I could have at other places, but the work they did was amazing, I didn't want to risk my car to anything less than the best.

Sorry off topic but that picture's from a camera phone? Wow that has pretty good resolution!

Back to the subject...the body shop should be able to knock whatever they can out and bondo the rest to a smooth finish. Banging and bondo will run you $5-600 and about $250 to paint. That's saying if you wanted the job done right. So have at least a grand handy.

Well that sucks, but I got to do it. Oh and ya that picture is actually downsized from what the camera can do. It is a 1.3 megapixel camera. It's on the Motorola V710. It has good resolution, but the quality is not great, especially indoors.

I wonder if you can just buy the rear fenders... It'd make the car more aggressive but then you'd have to buy some wheel spacers. It's look good tho.

Well...some one threw an egg at my driver door and 2 body shops quoted me $250 for a repaint of the door.

But they weren't dealer recommended shops...just hole in the wall kinda places...but they do good work in my opinion

I got a similar quote for my G sedan a while ago and for a good bodywork and pain job, it would be around 500 bucks.

If you are ever in NY take it to Shea, Azuay Body Shop, this guy martin does good work... he would fix that for under $125 with original paint (just make sure you tell him you want original paint). Otherwise take it to an "authorized" place and spend the 500.

I'd go around a smash thoses wheels too. Then have your insurance pay for the body work as well as a new set of 18" shoes.
