Am I dumb? What is this button?

There is a button on my 05 coupe that says PTY CAT. It is next to my radio button and stuff but I have no idea what it is and all my friends are like "party cat, whats that?". I know im dumb for asking to no need to tell me that, just tell me what it does, thanks.

Have you checked the owners manual?

You know its not so much "the stupid question" it's more the lack of effort IMO. In the time it took you to post this question, all you had to do is open your owners manual (thats why its there) and read in the radio section that the PTY (program type) CAT (catagory) button, when pressed durring FM use, the PTY name of that station will be displayed, and when used in sat radio mode, the category name of that station will be displayed....

You'll find people asking all sorts of questions on this forum, some "stupid" some more thought out, but it's the ones, and please excuse me for using you as an example, like this that really makes me wonder - have we become that lazy or simple minded in that we can't even try to come up with an answer or search using our own mental capacity to find maybe even an understanding of what we're looking for?

It's really disturbing!

Lol, I can't believe you actually checked

Duk, I have seen worse than that... there are about 50 threads floating around about the 05 shift light asking whether that's the rev limiter and what not I'm glad to answer any noob question as long as it's not awfully retarded.

Just to point out, some people don't have manuals. I had to get the dealer to give me an 05 manual 'cause they couldn't find one for my 04 (Got it at the end of the year).

It's actually against the auto manufacturers bylaws, not to mention illegal by the dept of consumer affairs standard for any dealership to sell you a motor vehicle without an owners / operators manual... The same law aplies to the window sticker, hence why they've all taken a certain standard in design and layout.

Who said he bought the car from a dealer? Or that he still had the manual if the car came with one?

For that matter, I found the manual exteremly unhelpful when explaining the proper function of the button. Embarrassingly so for a luxury car.

but in the same way the time it takes you to respond and say look it up in your manual you could have already answered the question

two wrongs don't make a right

Once again thanks everyone for your help, now that is all. No need to carry on and give anyone a hard time. Isn't that what these threads are for, to help someone who cant find it out themselves?
